crappy thoughts = crappy life

Took me 33 years to figure this out but the past 9 months I’ve made a conscious effort to monitor my thoughts and it really makes a large difference (ded fkn Srs)

Yup. discovered this much earlier than you but a bit later than i wanted to (around 23ish). your brain adapts like crazy. whatever you feed it, it multiplies it 10 fold. OCD and intrusive thoughts actually work this way. Lets say a person with OCD constantly washes their hands cause they think their hands are dirty, the chances of them washing their hands again increases. If that person says "fuk that my hands are clean" and refuses to wash them again, the chances of them washing their hands unnecessarily are MUCH lower. same thing with thoughts, you tell yourself you are ugly and let all the thoughts flow.. "oh tim says im ugly and stacy too" your brain will eat that up and it gets more powerful. acknowledge it and let it pass, itll go away

Stop words work as well. the main thing you have to do is to stop the negative thoughts from turning into racing/multiple negative thoughts and ull be good

"An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”"

a lot of small things, that have sort of added up

1.) weekly journal, doesn't have to be a ton of **** written down, but if there is anything that's bothering me, writing it out helps me "untangle" it a bit in my brain

2.) spend time in nature almost every day. i take a 4 mile walk with my dog almost every day, in the woods. do a lot of good thinking, reflecting, appreciating, etc.

3.) thinking a lot about the concept of impermanence (i.e. nothing is forever - not the good, not the bad, not anything)

4.) focusing on things that i can control. if there is a situation that is bugging me, but there is trulynothing i can do about it, then it is a waste of time to think about

5.) focusing on the opportunity or silver lining ineverything

6.) cut down drinking big time

7.) prioritize sleep -- 7+ hrs /night

i think im missing a ton, but this is the cliffnotes version of some of what i've done

my mind has always been my worst enemy

i've been trying to be more conscious of my thoughts but its been a real struggle (ded fkn Srs)

the weird part is being so aware that its occurring but still not being able to really control it

there are still times where i feel i'm successful with it and it really makes a difference

a few more things that have helped

8.) READING -- this has forced me to concentrate. concentrating has allowed me to be more aware, less scatter-brained, and therefore more "present" in reading the words on the page, which allows me to be more present in my day to day life (allowing me to be more aware of my inner dialogue and thoughts)

9.) distancing myself from negative people and losers. I have friends, some of whom I've known for many years, that are just constantly pessimistic, negative, etc. Whether its politics, gossiping behind peoples backs, or just looking to tear other people / things down to make themselves feel better. I have lost patience for that ****

10.) being aware of the music i listen to. i can't listen to aggressive rap or depressing rock anymore -- it seriously spills over into my mood, and my thoughts (ded fkn Srs)

Same man — I have always been a worrier.

Always worried about the worst case scenario, underestimating myself, overestimating other people, etc

It’s not easy but you can fix that thinking (ded fkn Srs)

Having a sharp mind is a double edged sword

It didn't affect me so much when I was younger ,but now that I'm 55 ,idle time is a bitch

I'm always alone unless I'm working

Regret and feels about the past

Worry about the future

100%

It’s kinda crazy but when you really observe it, your mind is like a blank movie screen

And all these thoughts are just being displayed on the screen constantly, and you think you’re helpless watching this movie. But when you become aware of it, you can start editing it and then having positive pictures on the movie screen is going to literally make your life so much better. It’s a beautiful thing and people who don’t get it, don’t get it.

I still have ProudManlet's book "PsychoCybernetics" to read.

I have a few other books in line to finish before getting to that one.
When Trump faces a reality she can't stand, she becomes highly emotional and illogical. Every crisis is met by histrionics, tantrums and an inability to deal with facts. "Its a HOAX! Its a FRAUD!"

The emotion then becomes the reality. Those of us with girlfriends are familiar with this phenomena. Donald Trump menstruating 24/7: "Blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his WHEREVER."

It's true. Most people don't even realize how negative their internal voice is. Once you become aware of this fact you slowly get better at catching yourself slipping into negativity and instead start on a positive path. Once you master this, life is on easy mode srs. Literally nothing can upset you because everything I mean absolutely everything is only a matter of perspective.

I’m the same way, I rarely see anyone mention this though. Even beyond music, in general I avoid media that’s just designed to bring you down and make you feel like you aren’t enough or don’t have enough.

it’s weird man, it seems sort of obvious but I never made the connection until recently

How do you prevent yourself from falling back to old habits?

It’s hard to change 20 years of conditioning. I’ve had moments where I really tried hard to be positive and it’s so exhausting.
