Is there any point in taking multivitamins/supplements? do you take them?

Even IF you believe a certain supplement has a beneficial effect, chances are it isn't what it says it is

So what's the point of taking any of this stuff? Would it be smarter to just try and get all your nutrients from food where you know it contains x amount of vitamin x?
