Religion is like smoking weed to calm your anxiety / depression, but actually works.

Here's my step by step. Note: Ex really bad alcoholic here - Best way I can describe pre/post Christ? - The feeling of shutting all the noise, anxiety, depression, problems sleeping, loneliness, anger, poor self image, all gone when you know the heart of God, the same way the "wine and spirits" (look at that word, spirits) does, but anyone who gets big into drugs / alcohol can tell you, it works for a little while, and then it's a train wreck, and will eventually kill you. As in literally.

My Experience:
The more i KNOW God,
The more I TRUST God,
The less anxiety, depression, etc.

Then once you grow into maturity as a Christian (Meaning Christ is you #1 desire, and you are mindful of prayer, meditation, worship, dead to self, dead to offense, producing fruit), you literally don't have any depression, anxiety, anger, offense, or horribly bad days anymore. Just like a drug, you aren't aware of those things anymore, and it's not even on your mind, it's crazy awesome, and the only sustainable to fight the Sunday Night Scaries (I know all too well about those).

That's the only way it works, the alcohol will kill you in the ugliest death possible. (trust me).

If anyone has any questions, lmk, or shoot me a message. Have a Blessed Monday!

Makes sense. To be religious you need to be slightly retarded. Smoking weed makes you slightly retarded.

If that works for you OP, then all power to you. However, It's mind-blowing to me that someone can spend their entire life worshipping some being that has zero sufficient to prove its existence. What makes you believe your god is more powerful than working with a doctor/medication for your addiction?

It's a huge coping mechanism for everything in life, but it actually works and has worked for thousands of years

Great post! I agree 100%. There is no replacement for God our creator. He desires a relationship with us and I'm just now starting to get it. Very refreshing and unlike anything else on Earth. Thank you Jesus for saving a wretch like me!

lol I don't understand how it works, or why the knee jerk reaction is to call religious people insane and retarded... (I mean, I did that for 28 years), whenever we spend thousands of hours doing something we made up and was a fantasy?

It just doesn't make sense for billions of people to do it, unless it felt good, produced some sort of mental / physical health, or is...real?

That's why it's the good news!

I'm a recovering alcoholic as well, been sober now nearly 4 years. While i didn't exactly turn to religion I found that being more spiritual and mindful helped me through it. God speed brother and congrats on sobriety
