Any Travel Brahs Been to Mexico City?

Only my second time leaving the country since covid hit last year. Weird feeling honestly. Any places I shouldn’t miss? Staying in centro. Being the gringo I am I booked a taco and mezcal tour tomorrow night shortly after I get in.

Go and visit the teotihuacan pyramids, it's only an hour bus trip from the city and absolutely worth it

Go watch the Ballet folklorico show inside Bellas artes palace, It's right there in the centro area and it's amazing, srs. They show lots of prehispanic dances and other culturally important contemporary dances with nice music inside an amazing art deco theatre

If you're into history the "museo de antropologia" has one of the best collections of prehispanic art and artifacts:

I hated it there. Overpopulated, massive waste disposal issues, everyone is trying to con white people unless they realize you can speak some Spanish, and I almost got jumped walking to the liquor store from my hotel. My only saving grace is that I was about twice as big as any one of the 3 guys and I have some experience/training in fighting.

The traffic is insane and some of the worst drivers on earth. I also got food poisoning on the last day due to bad meat.

Keep in mind this was downtown proper, all the outlier areas were gross, and I left my search of a taco joint out there. I was there for 3 days in a high rise Suite and the hotel was the best part of the whole 3 days.

Edit- I did visit the pyramids and that was awesome. Also did the boat ride and they of course tried overcharging us for drinks by double

Definitely on my list. Going to get a local to show me around the pyramids because I’m a massive pussy and speak no Spanish. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Mexico City so it should be a good time.

Yeah I’m sure crime can be an issue. But I don’t plan on carrying anything valuable so if I get mugged they can have my wallet with like $50 in pesos. My phone is several years old and I need a new one anyway. I don’t really plan on exploring much by myself so I should be ok.

My parents lost their **** when I told them I was going earlier today. I got warned not to fly back through Tijuana because I might have to. Guess they are unaware that I can walk from the airport straight over the border into San Diego.

the "museo nacional" is right there in the centro area and has some really nice art

There's a nice restaurant called "sanborns azulejos" also in the centro area

You can have some nice traditional food there

The chapultepec castle inside the chapultepec park/forest is also very nice, that used to be the presidential palace and is now a museum, is on top of a hill in the middle of the city so you have some really nice views plus the museum there is interesting plus the park is really nice

It’s honestly a cool city especially if you stay in the nice areas like Roma.

But there are better places to travel to imo.

Nightlife wasn’t as great as I thought it would be.

Food is great tho!

Don't worry is not as bad as they're saying, just be as careful as you would in any other city . I've seen more scammers and pickpocketers in other "safer" touristic cities. Avoid taxis and take uber or ride the subway tho, as taxis will probably try to overcharge you.

there are also some really nice murals in "palacio nacional" right next to the zocalo square. Worth a visit since Mexico had some of the finnest muralists of the 20th century like Diego Rivera

Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Not much of a nightlife guy. I’m happy stuffing my face with tacos and getting drunk at a quieter place. Not that nightlife is really a thing right now anyway.

I highly recommend you go to a lucha libre show at Arena Mexico. You don't have to be a pro-wrestling fan, it's more of a cultural thing. In between matches theres a bunch of hot dancers doing performances & whatnot.
When I went the place was packed, lots of tourists, tons of fun. VERY cheap coronas, you get like 4 for $1. Lots of annoying kids with air horns tho.

Naw but I spent a week in Tijuana with no problems. Hit up a few restaurants by myself at night being the only person who spoke English in the places, had some hnnnnnng bone marrow tacos

Probably made from the bone marrow of slain tourists but I didn't care

Mexico is the place where you can't even buy sim cards at the airport (for a fair price and without them giving you the wrong package at a higher price) or recharge them in convenience stores because the workers will straight up rob you and claim it's a problem on the Telecomm's side. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold fake / substituted alcohol or even pour tap water into the water cartons.

So yeah I hate how Mexicans are just scam artists like that.

Better just to use airport Wifi to call Uber and go to your hotel / accomodation. And book a place that is within walking distance of a real TelComm store so you can get a sim card without being scammed.

Some airports in Mexico IIRC Uber is banned from picking people up so you just have to go with one of the overpriced taxi booths.

Mexico City itself isn't a particularly affordable place. Entire place AirBnB are somehow all $700+ a month even though most locals in the city are technically quite impoverished. There's a Mexican price and then a Gringo Price. I think Mexicans get those AirBnBs for $200.

A lot of the replies are telling you to do things that I'm pretty sure aren't even open anymore. Museums were closed in CDMX months ago and pretty sure they still are. Never tried but I think nightlife is in the same categories.

Travel during covid is stupid. Even beach resorts aren't the same with them closing amenities, doing social distancing (so getting food takes a hour), etc. but still charging $150-$400 a night - phuck those greedy phucks.

I have T-Mobile so my phone works as it does as home. Will use Uber most places but they have a metro bus that runs within 5 mins of my hotel for super cheap.

I went last year with my two white coworkers. My family is from south of the city and I have been many times so I was in charge of what to do.

We rode the metro from the airport and stayed at the "Zocalo", main square downtown and it was super cheap and had some awesome Tacos Al Pastor from a Taqueria 2-3 blocks away. They had a breakfast buffet on top with a nice view of the mountains. We visited the "Catedral" and "Templo Mayor" which were all a block away. One of the guys wanted to do a a bus tour of the city. Near el Zocalo, there is an area with a lot of representatives for the bus tours, you can get a bus there to see the pyramids at Teotihuacan but we didn't have time for that. I then took them to a soccer game at the Azteca stadium which was also super cheap for good tickets. You can buy them at ticketmaster and have them print out at a supermarket chain. You cannot print from home when using credit cards outside of Mexico. We took the train to and from the stadium. The following day was a Sunday and did not know that major roads are closed to promote people to walk and ride bikes so the main streets all looked like a parade with lots of people getting exercise through walking, running, cycling, skating etc. We had to walk most of the way (buses were not running on main street) to Chapultepec Park where we visited the Museum of Anthropology and Castle on top of the hill. Could have done more but we had to meet up some business partners for dinner.

That was all we could do before a transit committee which is why we were really there. We rode the metro a lot and I kept an eye out for muggers but did not see anyone suspicious and I think it's exaggerated. The guys loved it.

edit: fyi this was before the pandemic. Last year February.

I live here and plan to stay. Its not supercheap but much more affordable than some ****hole U.S city. I live in Roma, It's like living in Paris for 1/5 the cost. You don't need a car, you can eat comfortable and eat well for cheap. Honestly you can live off 2k per month comfortable so if your making 6-8k after tax. Your laughing. I pay abut 1100USD for my 1 bedder.

If your a single guy dating here is awesome, I think its better than Asia and other parts of Latin America imo.

In the end though to live my lifestyle you have to make a western salary. If you are a tradie, you can't do what I do. You need to have a role in which you can work from abroad, and still get paid, I also have a business which makes a bit of money, eventually my bank will crack the ****s at me being here but i will tell them to f**k off but I will need to convert my current business into a lucrative full time option which is what I'm working on now.

Stop the music. Mexico is like the fattest country in Latin America. Even surpasses USA in obesity. And it's coincidentally also one of the brownest (Amerindian) due to the history of the Mesoamerican Empires. So many girls insist the Gringo is fluent in Spanish and they have some pent up xenophobia to thrown in.

Whenever I did Bumble / Tinder in Mexico it was just fat Amerindian single moms for the most part. Never ever once came or seen evidence of a Gringo getting a 4/10 or higher (speaking international 4. A Mexico 4 is probably a 230 pound chick) in Mexico. Please don't use an outlier like that Call of Duty Gamer who dated the weather girl. I'm talking about mediocre average Gringo travel guys that dominate YouTube. The few who have Mexican girlfriends (not many) got some bottom tier girls. Many of them seem like incels in Mexico due to the prior paragraph (they won't date you if your Spanish isn't fluent and/or the xenophobia)

There's literally places in USA where you can live with that money without having to live in Mexico, a country where 95%+ of murders go unsolved and hardly anyone speaks English - LMAO!

"Cheap" in the world would be 2nd or 3rd tier locations in South East Asia. Caucasus (primarily Georgia but also Armenia) are good runner ups but with worse dating scenes.

You probably went to Cabo or Cancun where as pointed out yesterday in the misc full of sexless couples and blokes thinking they are gonna get hotties.

Mexico City is like Europe, The girls are very European here, Like every major city the population here isn't fat, people need to walk everywhere. Same as New York not having that many fatties. Anyway after spending last summer in Texas, I think male fatties are a bigger problem than female fatties. Even in the past couple weeks here I ****ed a lawyer and two bankers, these woman are making probably 75-80 percent of a New York salary. You couldn't pay these bitches to go to socialist America where whites are basically being persecuted for being white. Yes I know I can find places in America on that salary but living outside major US cities is retarded, and full of single moms, and just **** people. Hence why there is soo many sexless incel miscers here.

I've lived in South East Asia and as a kid I lived in Indonesia, anyone thinks places like Indonesia, Thailand and boring ****holes like Malaysia are cheap is a ****ing retard. CDMX is def cheaper than Bangkok in terms of rent, food, everything. Looks Maximus is in for a shock when he realises his pleb money in Poland isn't gonna cut it in Thailand for as long as he thinks.

I will point out that many Americans and Europeans have worked out this is the place to be and I expect many more to move here.

2nd tier Thailand looked pretty good anytime I research it. The problem is you have to overstay your visa because there's generally no cheap easy way to stay there.

Philippines you can definitely get $200ish studios in 3rd tier cities. Sometimes even in fringe suburbs of Cebu (seen people do apartment videos on YouTube). But I agree the whole: "live like a King!" thing is a pretty big myth in SEA. To rent a proper western style home in most of South East Asia is a 4 digit cost.

I have a daughter in the Philipines so I know a lot about it, and I agree still if your in a Cebu or a Davao, i would want to be paying more than 200 I think 500-600. These are growing economies and times are changing.Plebs in the US think that no one has money in these countries, yes there is poverty but also a strong building middle class. If Looks Maximus was smart about it he would be going there. I used to go to Pattaya in my early 20s as a tall Australian, before the Russian Gangsters came, it was amazing! just Aussies some Americans and Arabs were smashing the joint. I wouldn't touch Pattaya anymore. It's funny how Looks Maximus is scared of the police in Latin America yet Pattaya is effectively run by Siberian Gangsters and Aussie Surf Gangs.

Bangkok is a fun city but you need money. I wanna get into a situation where i spend half my time in Mexico and the other half in SE Asia making 6 figs, I think i'll get there next year.
