planet fitness dumbbells go up in 5s...

i'm currently doing side laterals with 20lb dumbbells but the 25lb dumbbells are too heavy. can i use the 2.5lb wristweights to lift a 20lb dumbbell like it was a 22.5lb dumbbell?
