Defeat COVID: Go Outside

Not exactly new information, but there is more evidence for it now.

COVID is practically never spread outdoors. Not any variant as yet in existence. Doesn't matter if it is daytime or nighttime.



Personally only wear a mask outside if I actually have to [employer].

Seems that there is no reason to really restrict outdoor activities as long as there is free air flow + low crowd density.

Sports should be back. Amusement parks, swimming pools, gardens and garden centers, fireworks displays, plays, movies, concerts...all good, or with very very negligible risk.

Wish that we could get some real momentum going to pressure government to drop restrictions on outdoor activities. Let people live a little. Those who are at high risk or very cautious can choose not to participate or to wear a mask at these events.

Never heard this (construction sites), but my guess would be it is the port a pots and the virus is hanging around in those relatively closed up poo boxes.

If this is true [construction sites + port a pots] then our big outdoor events may need a different plan for potty breaks. At least something that isn't so closed in.

ETA: Or maybe you just need to wear a good mask when you gotta go + have better hand washing available.

I heard youtube is a great source of medical knowledge. Next time I won't go to a doctor when I'm sick, I'll find someone who watches youtube to treat me

One study published in April identified a single case of transmission outdoors, between two Chinese villagers, out of more than 7,000 studies.

In an analysis of 25,000 cases, which has not yet been independently reviewed, six percent of cases were linked to environments with an outdoor element, such as sporting events or concerts.

These were enclosed areas where social distancing was not observed, or where people stayed for a while, moving around and talking loudly or singing.

"There were virtually no cases that we could identify that took place in sort of everyday life outdoors," study author Mike Weed, a professor and researcher at Canterbury Christ Church University, told AFP.
6% of cases had "an outdoor element"; however these were "enclosed areas where social distancing was not observed".

I'm thinking people sitting around inside of tents. Maybe people in crowded public bathrooms at sporting events where "social distancing was not observed", which I would take to mean as close physical proximity + no masks.

Mask up for the potty maybe or to stand in line in the beer tent.
