Rate my chickens/10

Couldn't imagine buying eggs from a store, nothing like cracking a fresh egg and making an omelette in the morning

They close off the intestines so no contact with poop

Plus they last for long time in my basement due to that natural bloom

I used to let them roam but they tore up the yard and left chit everywhere, plus it's easier to clean their house when they aren't in it

Mirin - what color are their yolks compared to store bought? I used to get fresh farm eggs from a friend who owned the farm, best eggs I ever had. I remember the yolks being a richer, deeper color.

10/10

I don't have any right now but I get eggs from my neighbor across the street. She has 25 chickens and just hatched 20 more. So if she wants to sell I can get a flock going.

I've got an old coop on the property just need to clean it up before I get the birds.

When I used to buy store bought they were runny and annoying to make certain style of eggs

My eggs feel just like a more robust egg, a nice golden rich color, yolks don't break so easy

Nice, OP. Here's a photo of my big black coq -Lexington Steele.

I feel the same way about daily fresh eggs. Although, since chicken breast is my primary lean protein source, especially during cut, there's some major cognitive dissonance happening in my brain on a daily basis. I go from stroking the back of one of my chickens to breaking the back of a dead one literally 5 minutes later.

Any farm and feed store will sell chicks at certain times of the year or just find someone that breeds them if your looking for a specific kind

Just don't be that dude that lives around others with an annoying ass rooster

We built a fenced-in area for our girls that covers maybe an acre...it's amazing how fast 20 chickens can strip mine the **** out of your lawn. That grass is never coming back lol

Despite being in the boonies, our gay ass township has declared "no livestock".

lol

Had quail for a while. Don't think I would actually get any chickens..I'd be losing them to foxes and chit all the time, and I hear real cold weather is hard on them.

Plus I am not eggsactly a farmer.

Looks good brah, if you ever decide to get rid of chickens can always use the cage for an iguana

I wouldn't eat one of the girls. We did end up with two roosters from my wife's straight run picks. They were crowing all day being obnoxious, and the anti-crow collars worked better on one than the other. Had to put one of them to the tomahawk...made some Moroccan style lemon and olive chicken tagine from him.
