Crypto on verge of collapse?

evrything is dumping except literal meme coins with animal names that have market caps in the tens of billions of dollars...what could go wrong?

Bitcoin and ethereum(only two that matter)are doing fine.

the market caps are a joke, it only reflects the last price of the coin rather than value so they are meaningless.

People should also realize that when they say jeff bezos has 200B since his net worth is all in amazon. The principle of last sale price applies there too

There used to be a running joke that the US could sell central park in new york to pay its debt off. Because the last sale price (dollars per sq ft) of a parcel of land on central park, when multiplied by the area of central park was greater than the national debt.

They don't realize that in a decentralized entity no police raid can shut it down (like eGold or traditional ponzis). Likewise, at least we don't think there are, there's no central figure owning 98% of the outcome who can just decide one morning to do a rugpull.

well assuming the coin is liquid then the last traded price is a correct pricepoint to calculate marketcap. The value is whatever price it is trading at right now.

I get the decentralized/no gov argument, but what about these two claims?

1. Inflation resistant
- a. nothing stopping a system like fractional reserve banking for crypto coins which have a finite count. Most dollars created today are not actually created; banks can lend more dollars than they have via fractional reserve. This can happen with bitcoin too.
- b. nothing stopping other coins from coming into existence since the underlying technology can be copied. Like how we have dogecoin, ethereum, etc
- c. even if it WAS inflation resistant, this would mean its inherently deflationary because you need a monetary system that can expand at the same rate as wealth creation.

2. Its a better currency than the dollar
- a. in order to be used as a currency, it has to be a good currency. Which means being a stable source of value.
- a1. most cypto activity isn't used like cash, its people speculatively investing which causes the price to wildly fluctuate. At some point it will have to stop being an investment and a stable store of value instead.
- a2. see 1c. If its deflationary, people will want to hoard the currency instead of spending it, defeating its purpose as a currency

3. Its a useful investment
- a. Unlike stocks or bonds, no value or capital is created by the existence of the coins like a company does. Unlike stocks or bonds which have cash flow, In order to have a profit, someone has to buy at a higher price. And same for that person, ad infinitum. Eventually you run out of money for the price to go higher and the whole thing will collapse as everyone will try to sell before everyone else.

Until I can reckon with these things, I'm staying the hell away from it. I believe its a modern day tulip.
