I don't know why Hollywood has always completely failed to do this, but I honestly can't think of one video game adaptation where I like " Wow that was great!"

What ones do you think are good/bad.? NOTE: I use the term "good" very loosely, as even the best one is probably like a 6/10, but at least watchable/enjoyable to a degree.

Things to consider:
- character casting/resemblance
- did it stay true to the game (scenery, costumes, ect)
- did it stay true to the story
- did it have a decent plot


My List of ones I've seen:

Good Ones (again, used loosely):

Rampage - probably my favorite one. Giant Gorilla, Wolf and Crocodile tearing chit up with the Rock in pursuit. Non stop fun.
Silent Hill - I think this was the best ones as far as staying true to the game and actually being a big eerie.
Resident Evil 1 - thought this was a decent attempt. It was too much of an action flick though, when RE is a horror franchise
Resident Evil Apocalypse - I personally thought this was the best of the series. It felt the most like RE minus the stupid ninja kung fu chit.
Mortal Kombat - the original was great. I thought it did justice to just about everything. Biggest gripe is that Sub Zero and Scorpion were barely used when they are two of the most popular characters.
Mortal Kombat (2021) - a lot of people hated it, but I thought it was decent. I enjoyed it the second time more than the first. When I tried to watch it as a "prequel" to the tournament, it was a better movie.


Bad:
All the other Resident Evil movies. WTF was even going on towards the end. By the time they introduced Claire, Chris and Leon the series was already in the toilet.
Doom - this was an atrocity. The Rock must hate himself for agreeing to this one. Completely disrespected the Doom franchise
Street Fighter - honestly, I didn't hate it, but its really a poor movie.
Max Payne - Jesus Christ, whoever wrote this must have been stoned out of their mind.
Alone in the Dark - laughable.

Unwatchable:
Doom: Annihilation - words can't describe how awful this was
Mortal Kombat Annihilation: this looked like some kids in their basement made it. Awful
House of the Dead 1 & 2: I can't believe I actually sat through these. Somehow despite how awful the first was, the second was even worse.




They are rebooting Resident Evil with a movie called "Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City" with Claire, Chris, Leon, Ada, Jill, Wesker and Birkin as characters. MAYBE this won't suck.

House of the dead 1 & 2 were fukking hilarious dude, the way I treat horror movies in general is enjoyment in how bad they are.
Absolutely love chitty b horror flicks like 5 headed shark and chit like that.

Doom: Annihilation was arguable the worst film I've watched this decade ded fukken srs.

Haven't seen the new Mortal kombat, need to.

Monster Hunter was a weird mix of good bad for me. Solid 5/10.

Streetfighter movies are all a solid 2/10 at best on srs scale, but a 8/10 humor scale lmao.

Final Fantasy movies are all solid 8/10s with Advent Children being an absolute 10/10 masterpiece.

Tomb Raider. Because of Angelina Jolie back in the day.

first MK was dynamite. that's how you do it. perfectly casted. plenty of humor, solid fight scenes for its day, fun soundtrack. very entertaining and respectable tribute to the games. yes they fell right on their face with annihilation. i haven't seen the '21 version yet.

Silent Hill was alright.

Sonic was actually pretty good srs.

Best: Sonic, Warcraft, MK (1995), Street Fighter (Van Damme/Raul Julia yes pls), Detective Pikachu.

Bad but Watchable: Doom, MK2021, Tomb Raider (really any of them), RE1

Unwatchable: Max Payne, the majority of the RE movies, Mario Bros (John Leguizamo)

Street Fighter move was awesome crew checking in.

I played 1 and 2 when they came out and didn't play the rest until 2014 because the game freaked me out so much. I even couldn't complete the movie at first. All of the feminine occultism that underlies the game really is disturbing.

The Witcher is pretty damn good imo. Almost all of them bad. Don’t forget that terrible job they did with assassins creed.

The metal gear solid adaptations were decent

Forget the actual name of the movies but they were based on the game character snake

Super Mario movie gets a lot of criticism but it was pretty good as a gimmick movie experience

Max Payne was horrific. Had absolutely nothing to do with the game

Sonic was "excellent" as far as video-game to movie franchises. It was a "D" or a "C" movie in general as Jim Carey can only do so much.

Game had little story anyway and the movie felt like the cartoon. At least they gave a reason for the Rings rather than meth addiction.

Worst had to be early 90 flag bearers like Mario Brothers.

Mortal Kombat has a limited story and is effectively Rocky - so unless you love the character or have some sort of affiliation with a country it represents you won't really like it. The movie was as plain - but having so many characters versus /just one/ made it a bad movie.

Pokemon Detective was also excellent as far as video-game movies go -- despite it having very little to do with the actual game and was more of a side-story relating to all the weird lore.

The main understanding you need besides watching the 'Mewtwo' movie is this guy:

They did the new MK dirty. Should’ve been a series since there are so many characters. Could’ve easily blossomed in to something great.
