Henry Cavill Cast In Highlander Reboot

Looks like they are rebooting the original Highlander film with Henry Cavill being cast as Connor Macleod. What do you guys think about the casting and the fact they are remaking the original film?

I’m a fan of the original film and a bigger fan of the series. The casting is a bit surprising, I like Cavill but I feel he’s too big for the role physically. One of the things about Connor Macleod was that he could blend into the crowd, average looking, average height, average/skinny build, could blend right in. As opposed to Cavill who sticks out in a crowd, he’s tall, he’s muscular, he’s good looking.

Plus who’s gonna play The Kurgan? They need someone that’s gonna make Cavill look small in a similar way 6’3 Clancy Brown made Christopher Lambert look small.

He’s got the fair skin, dark brown/black hair, blue eyes thing going for him. If he was a little bit taller I would say he would be perfect for the role. Clancy Brown at 6’3 was likely around 205lbs for that role, not super muscular but tall and athletically built. Christopher Lamber was probably around 150lbs at 5’10. So realistically Cavill being around 6’0.5 we need to see a Kurgan 6’5 or taller for the same type of effect as the original film. Perhaps they could do what they did in The Dark Knight for Tom Hardy’s Bane and get some boots with a lift in them if they really needed to. The thing is it isn’t just the height, Cavill is muscular probably over 200lbs lean. I can’t really think of many legitimate actors that would make him look diminutive or small overall.

There is an actor Kevin Durand that I always thought would make a good Kurgan, he’s 6’6 250lbs and he’s a solid actor. He checks all the boxes but he’s 47 which could be too old for the role.

Yeah I’m not upset about the casting, I like Cavill. He seems like a good dude and I have liked him in everything I’ve seen him in.

I was telling my family, I’m genuinely relieved they didn’t cast a non-white in the role. It’s sounds like such a joke to say, but in 2021 we legitimately have to worry about the story of a Scottish Highlander being played by someone not white. Something tells me they are going to blackwash or brownwash at least one of the other main characters though. Perhaps Connors love interest in modern times or the 80s whenever it is set, or I could see them trying to cast Jason Mamoa or Batista as The Kurgan which would be horrible.

Oh I was just watching him on The Strain, and remember him from Stargate Sg-1. I didn't realize he was that tall. Damn actually he would be perfect as Kurgan.

For the part of Ramirez (Connor’s mentor) I think it needs to be someone like Javier Bardem, Antonio Banderas, Alfred Molina, or Andy Garcia. They are in the right age range for the role and I think they would all do absolutely great in the part.

Doesn’t have to be, I mean Spaniards are European so as long as it’s a European and can pass as a Spaniard I think it’s fine. But technically the character of Ramirez is over 2000 years old and it’s originally from Egypt, he ended up in Spain later on and assimilated to that culture. The role should be played by someone of either Southern European or Middle Eastern/North African ancestry.

Realistically Sean Connery probably wasn’t the most accurate or realistic casting for the character, although but he did a really good job.

For this reboot they might discard the Egyptian part of his background which is only mentioned once in the original film, you never know what changes that might make.

People from Northern Iberia are extremely closely related to British and especially Celtic people. Look how many Basques have red hair.

I have relatives from not so far back that were Namibian tribesman. They happen to have fought lions just to become warriors. I'm Scottish with a lot of Brittonic blood. The Welsh often have darker eyes but still have the red hair. Flex Lewis look Welsh as ****.



A lot of them also have a monkey mouth like Gareth Bale.

Overall I enjoy the John Wick franchise. I love the cinematography and stunts. The passion for the stunts clearly shows. I do appreciate the 3 Gun Tactical shooting and the martial arts.

The 1st movie was a simple story but the franchise has, just like the Fast and Furious franchise, gone ridiculous over time.

Tom Ellis (the guy that plays Lucifer on Netflix) is Welsh and looks more Mediterranean than me and I’m half Italian/Sicilian. There is a bunch of Welsh celebrities that could pass for Italian, Spanish, or Southern French. Some more that come to mind are Ioan Gruffudd, Peter Wingfield, Tom Jones & Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Flex Lewis does look Welsh although he could fit nearly as easy in England.
