Question about taxes

So

Im from Croatia so I dont know how is it in the states but...

Does a tax department or whatever you call it, you can call it the government because they get that money

Do they investigate a company/business and its payments to its employees to make sure they dont get scammed in tax returns?
So when an employer gives paychecks monthly or weekly whatever the transaction may occur, and of course employer has to pay taxes to the states on said paycheck of the employee, does the US government or whoever investigate the company that the employer hasnt given its employee bigger paycheck that they have registered mentioned employee on tax department or whatever you call it.

For example here there is a minimum salary and above that minimum salary an employer HAS TO pay taxes to the government. So if an employer says no Im giving my employee minimum wage but in fact he pays him more in contrary to what he says to the government are there any additional investigations to make sure hes not scamming the state?

Sorry my english isnt so broad and I dont live in the states but I was just wondering how is it there.

Yeah they call it an audit, people are hired to investigate the finance/accounting if something seems fishy.

Wage theft from corporations actually makes up a much larger chunk of cash than actual theft. Min wage violations, overtime violations, rest break violations, and off-the-clock violations. Employers steal more from employees than street criminals steal from people.

But like a lot of corporate white collar crime, they typically just pay a fee and move on. They consider the penalties of breaking the law just another cost, so if it's this prevalent in the US then I don't know how much better it would be in the Balkans.

I used to work in this pastry shop and yeah covid hit us like everyone else and my employer reported us on a minimum wage salary (but we got more than minimum) so that he couldnt pay the government taxes (anything above minimum wage has to be taxed)

So I got my tax returns and thats why I didnt get as much as I thought

Also, they won't investigate unless there is a lot of money at stake. They'll look for easy-to-spot clerical errors and send out a correction notice, but as far as full-blown fraud, the IRS won't investigate unless it's worth their time.

It is safe to assume that the gov with an army of financial auditors and regulators are likely to figure out if a company is breaking the rules. Numbers don't lie usually and I'd say you are better off finding smart legal ways of managing money instead.

Yeah we are corrupt as **** I just had to stand my ground bro even every country has its flaws and history that guy had it coming even though I plan to move out in a few years I still live here and its my country so I had to jab back ya know what I mean
