What is financial security?

Brahs, been thinking lately what is financial security to you? I can’t imagine having so Much money and not worrying about a thing. After you have achieved that, what is here to live for?

Do not worry, life is a b!tch once you have hit complete and absolute financial security with a strongly diversified investment portfolio with both local and international investments, different assets.. strong monthly inflow and yearly dividend cuts...etc you will probably end up with either health problems or some trying to take it all from you.

Do not worry, you are almost certain to always have something to worry about.

I feel like I have financial security. My wife and I have a combined income of $155,000 a year (I make 80k, she makes 75k). We have a mortgage with monthly payments of $2,200 which is roughly 1/4 of our TAKEHOME pay, leaving us with about $6,600 a month for the rest of our stuff. We have a $400 car payment, while the rest if the bills are normal utilities and food. We end up saving about $2,000 a month which is put into various investment accounts. Both of our companies downsized last year due to covid and we both came out with raises, which shows our jobs are pretty damn stable. We generally live below our means and don't really ever stress about money. Although we are planning on doing a ~$150,000 renovation to out house so we are actively saving for that for the next year or so.

I think that's what financial security is.

You almost can never have enough. I retired at 48 and my wife moneymogs but she always wants more.
She’ll say if I make this much _____ then I’ll be content. Then she does and wants more.

It’s a viscous cycle. I want more nicer things. I get more money. I want even more nicer things. I need even more money.

I love to relax and own my own time.
My wife works a full time career in financial services is an adjunct college professor and volunteers her free time. She’ll never be able to retire.

If you have too little money you'll worry about paying for necessities in the short term

But the more money you have, the more you start to worry about things like inflation eating away your wealth, anemic stock returns over the next decade or two, etc

seems like only rich people really think they always need more.

i grew up pretty poor. we never was on welfare cause my grandmother worked two jobs and my grandfather was retired from naval ordinance. but we had enough to get by..

i could live comfortably the rest of my life on 500 grand. put it in the bank and just live off the interest. if you can live on 40k a year. then your taste are exepensive. after you get the home, the car, furniture. toools, mower, etc etc. unless you just want luxury it can be done

It is very dependent on personality. Type A people will always feel the need to work on new or new projects and set new goals and stay busy with some type of new achievement. But not everyone is like that.
The type of people who aren’t like that tend be be useless, and thankfully never get the opportunity enjoy much leisure.

As a single male? My bills and mortgages paid, cash making it’s own cash. Chilling in the whip in the parking lot of my business watching the cash stack while I let this blunt burn, not a care in the world.
