Jurassic Park is a GOAT level film
- Dinos/VFX still looking amazing to this day
- Incredible pacing, tension, jump scenes
- Characters are interesting and well acted but the focus remains on the dinosaurs, so there is good balance to the piece as a whole
- Laura Dern was an HBB then and still is now (seen below in that divorce movie, well into her 50s I think). Don’t know who the other lady is.

Watching it tonight, I realized how many tense sequences don’t involve dinosaurs (the car falling from the tree with Tim inside, the electricity situation impacting the characters especially when the kids and Grant are trying to climb the fence that is about to turn on, etc). The chaos that Malcolm predicts ends up running wild and trickling down into everything. Great writing.

New one is fun but not one scene in it comes close to the nighttime T Rex attack on the jeeps.

It's the only time the CGI doesn't hold up.
Also, the scene where she's turning the power on to the parts of the Park. After she's done an arm appears behind her. She freaks out and runs.
The arm is obviously a fake prosthetic.
I can also tell what's animatronic and what's CGI.
The shot where the T-Rex shows up in the rain. CGI
The shot where the T-Rex is pushing the car using it's head. Animatronic.
The Spielberg trademark mirror shot of the T-Rex chasing the vehicle. CGI.
But that's the thing. Spielberg did a fantastic job of knowing when to use CGI and practical effects.

Absolutely is a great movie and I agree. The animatronics are what set it apart and allowed it to age well. also the book was tremendous although some differences. Great story, great director, great cast, great script. It was/is one of my all time favorites.
On a side note, I've used the "clever girl" line about 10k times IRL.

My parents took me and my sister to see it in the theater when it came out. I was 13 at the time and my mind was absolutely blown after watching it.

The first one? Oh hell yea. It’ll always be an epic classic. Not only was it all you listed but it was original. Nobody had done anything like it before and the whole idea of it was close enough to reality to be believable while delivering a terrifying experience when thinking about being in an island film of prehistoric reptiles that could swallow a car.

The originals were marvels of technology, and inspired millions if not billions of people to be interested in dinos and science.
Can't think of another film that has positively affected and still inspires people to this day to the same level if I'm being honest.
I will never forget how I felt, and even to this day how I feel when the music starts when the pan up to the pasture of all the dinos. The new films are pretty vapid and empty of that emotion, even when the play the song they show just the main park concession area. Instead of incredible dinos they show fukking consumerism lmfao.

The original Jurassic Park is a legitimately great, all-time classic of a film. 2, The Lost World, was a big drop off from the original, not even being half the movie the first one was. However, that's to be expected, and I'd say it was still decent enough for what it was. 3 was getting to be a joke pretty badly, but at least still had some pretty cool dino action in it.
The new Jurassic World movies are absolute trash. I sat through the first one (not in theaters), and couldn't believe how bad it was. It felt like they just made a halfasssed Godzilla monsters movie with some weird Terminator elements thrown into it or some chit. Didn't even feel like a Jurassic Park movie, which I can at least say about 2 and 3, despite all of their flaws.
Honestly it's not surprising at all, as there's only so much great plot material you're gonna get out of a concept like dinosaur movies, and they really drained most of it on the original film. Which was a good move imo, it's better to have one amazing classic and some halfasssed sequels than a slew of halfasssed movies entirely. At least we got one film out of it that genuinely seems to hold up through the test of time.
