Anyone live in Memphis? Moving there need help

I have a job promotion I might be taking that is sending me from Chicago to Memphis. Anyone on here around the Memphis, TN area?

-Where should I live? Need a place that is safe. I'll rent for the first 6 months to 1 year and reassess after that when I get acquainted with the area.
-Places to go/things to do?
-Any other pointers?

First things first. Don't live in Memphis lol. My favorite suburb is probably Southaven Mississippi. Nice town with great schools in the whole county and only 10 miles or so to downtown Memphis. Memphis isn't like Chicago in that the decent parts are really close and mixed in with the dangerous parts. It's hard to fuk up and end up in a shady area in Chicago and its extremely easy to do in Memphis

This is obviously a troll post but just in case OP doesn't know north Memphis, south Memphis and any suburbs to the west like West Memphis Arkansas are dangerous as hell. The safe spots are the east side of the city and suburbs like Collierville, Germantown and Southaven

I would live in Collierville personally. Watch out for frequent highway shootouts. Say your prayers before bed just in case.

The BBQ is the best in the world and Memphis Music Fest is the second largest music festival in the world.

Beal Street isn't that bad but remember where you park.

Toms and Tops are good BBQ joints. The smaller spots are where you want to go.

Fair enough. Nashville is a great time but probably best suited for vacation if you like that nightlife scene.

My hometown isn't far from knoxville and I love it there. I like the access to outdoors stuff. Hiking, lakes, rivers, smoky mountains etc.

Stayed in Memphis driving to Destin, FL last year. We went down to Beale St and ate at Pig on Beale. It was just alright. The street was mostly closed down with COVID and there were some shady looking MF'ers so we didn't stay long.

Mud Island is probably the only place you would want to live. When I visited Memphis, it was just a sad town. There is no energy. Half of the population is living in poverty and it was just dark and gloomy. I wouldn't live there even if someone offered me to double my current salary.
