thoughts on the homeless problem?

opinions?

also, how do we fix this? gimme your best ideas, ethical or not.

obviously the main cause of it is drug addiction, so if you have any solutions to that... it would work too.

What exactly makes it a problem? Instead of wasting all this money housing them we could just pay some of them to clean up the homeless camps.

stop giving them money, some will die, some will get their lives together, everyone wins.

One thing people need to realise this isn't a US problems it's happening everywhere, For instance, apparently homeless are out of control in Eastern Europe I hear now.

I dont know if u can 'fix'the problem, more probably needs to go into prevention, once you're a drug addicted homeless person i imagine its near impossible to get out of that situation.

Mental illness.

As the mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance that Americans do everyday becomes more demanding, there will continue to be a growing homeless and mental illness problem.

In fact, many "normal" people who are performing top tier intellectual somersaults regarding politics (liberals, trumptards, sjws), society (feminists, "women's rights" advocates, boomers, cucks, eunuchs, etc.), and economic issues (supporting the corporate and government entities who despise and steal from the populace daily), will continue to function and either produce no offspring, a wincel-like creature as offspring, or a future mentally ill homeless person. This is a multi-generational concern.

You can't have a society so thoroughly delusional, and getting whipped by the powers that be constantly, not go crazy. It will play out and manifest in homelessness, crime, and severe mental illness and derangement. Changing the the means and ways to measure those things may mask the problems, but that is only superficially.

a lot more of them than people realize prefer the streets - most likely due to drugs or mental illness or both - but you literally can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped.

Accurate!

You can build houses/apts for them with rules and regulations ie. no guests after 8, no music, no drinking but they won’t go for that. If I’m homeless I can either stay in a place where I’m not free and have to abide by rules or live how I was prior and essentially do what I want. Some want to live in a nice place and get better but alot of them are content with how they are now.

As someone who lives in LA, and can't walk a block without seeing fukking tents everywhere, I have long thought about this, and have a "solution."

Communes...

We startup these mini cities, where all of them will be shipped to.

There will be free room and board, free health care, free andmandatedmental health care, and finally free education in various trades for certifications.

But here's thecatch...Each individual will spend 4-6 hours a day working in the commune. Be it farming, crafting items for sale, or whatever various tasks that will aid in generating revenue. They will then have 2-4 hours a day of education for the trade(s) of their choice.

ya but we cant have people slowly dying off in the street bro. plus, places that you mentioned like eastern europe provide very little money for the homeless and its a huge problem there, so that cant be the solution.

what i would do is: a "camp" (more like a jail) for the homeless that would act as a rehab and force them to work which would provide them with some sort of skill when they are cleared. revenue generated from the work will be spent on camp operations.

supplement that with a brutal crackdown on dealers of hard drugs (i.e. first offence for distribution = instant death penalty). no more nice cushy prisons or "three strikes" policy... lethal injection.

Addicts can surely recover but at an earlier stage. Once it's so bad they're living on the streets it's most likely too late. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be stuff done to prevent it from happening.

When you subsidize something you get more of it.

Want more homeless? Make it easier to be homeless with support and charity.

Want less homeless? Don't give them handouts.

When we help illegals, people yell “We have to help our own!”

When we try to help our own poor, people yell “That’s socialism!”

It’s hard to find that perfect spot to input a safety net. Help people out too much, and they’ll depend on handouts. Don’t help people enough, and that ends up poorly as well.

Some people think parts of Europe have the right model, but they never tell the whole story.

This sounds great in theory and would be an absolute fix, but... as others have said, many of them wouldn’t go. They don’t want to/can’t function under rules. It’s due to various reasons of course but it’s why they’re homeless to begin with for the most part.

-Decriminalize ALL drugs (srs).
-RELEASE drug-use-offenders from prison (double SRS).
-(re?)-establish federally funded mental hospitals.
-Make Drug Addiction an involuntary-commitable mental illness since it is a serious danger to oneself and everyone around that person.

Right now our prisons are over-filled. Many of those prisoners are small-time drug users who would be functional members of society - or at least so relative to the absolute dregs that are drug-addicts on the street. Many violent criminals are released early or with lesser sentences because of our prison over-capacity situation. So it makes sense to prioritize spaces from small-time drug users toward violent criminals.

This will likely cause a spike in the homeless. After this initial uptick, we can sort out the worst and put them into the mental hospitals, which will also be rehab centers. It's too expensive putting these people into jail, and although there isn't much hope for the vast majority of them, at least we can try to help them. Either way, they can be kept away from society.

So basically, we can put more violent people in prison, and move drug addicts off the streets and out of prison into loony-bins/rehab centers, while being more fiscally efficient.

If you're a drug-user who is not on the street breaking into cars/houses, violently assaulting people, or just being disgusting and leaving needles/**** everywhere, then who cares? Society can't afford to care right now. Maybe they can voluntarily use the same rehab facilities to get better. But if you're one of those degenerates causing trouble - you need to be put away until you can function again. And if that's never, then so be it. Right now we just let those people run a muck, and that's very expensive.
Operation Swole.

A lot of homeless people are homeless by choice. Many are mentally ill and addicted to drugs you can't simply just build homes and that'll be that. Many of them don't want to live by someone else's rules and prefer the streets where they are free to do whatever the fuk they want and do all the drugs they want. Try to put them in a home and they wouldn't be able to function, would break all the rules, fuk up the entire place, break rules, etc.

Hard to help people who don't want to be helped and are content doing what they are doing. But one thing for sure is we can't be making it easier for homeless people to just be living on the streets. People are all for helping the homeless, giving them shelters, having sympathy for them which is fine but don't complain when they show up in a neighbourhood near you and your kid accidentally picks up or steps on a needle in a playground or if they post up near your house.

There are people that are legit homeless and are willing to live in subsidized housing and pick themselves up but think of it this way. Are these the type of people that stay homeless for years? A person who truly wanted to escape homelessness probably wouldn't be homeless for years. You could have 1000 homeless people at one point of time, 6 months later still have 1000 homeless people, but the people within that population will have changed. Some will have found a place to live, some who previously had a home will become homeless, basically a revolving door. So it's the people who are chronically homeless are the ones that you really have to get after, whatever that reason is.

Some are homeless because of disabilities which is also sad. Making homeless shelters/homes for them may work somewhat but I don't think it truly solves the root of the problem. California I think especially has a unique set of challenges because there are so many transplants. That indicates to me more of the homeless population would just rather LDAR on the streets and remain homeless.

Only thing you can really do is enforce no camping on public property, get rid of these camps, attempt funding for those who really need it and those that refuse to not camp the streets be sent to jail, some sort of alternate facility, etc.
