There are a million ways to make a profit, but they all require knowledge and skills or access to someone who someone who has them.

In terms of crime or gambling, you take a really large risk without much skill or knowledge required. Legally, profitable ventures like real estate, small businesses, trading and investing, crafts, creative arts, software development, and more require lower risks with more skill and knowledge. You aren't going to prison or losing 10k at once by fixing and reselling an old house, producing a record, or by starting a website.

If you are entrepreneurially minded then I'd just start reading up on profitable ventures that you can invest in. Just having capital isn't enough, there are people who make large profits through fundraising with zero capital to start with. Just don't waste it.

The best investment you can make is to put it into your community. For example, you have food banks who buy in bulk and secure 10 meals per dollar. That's 100,000 meals, and that can support multiple hungry families for years. You could also invest in afterschool programs or in supplying clean water to villages in rural areas. That will probably enrich your life and other's far more than just having another 10k.
