Someone explain this to me. So is it really legal to just walk out of a store with anything you want or is there a loophole in the system?
Trust me, I am a pharmacist.

https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.co...d%20conviction.
California law defines petty theft as the theft of any property with a value of $950 or less. Most petty thefts are charged as misdemeanors, which carry a sentence of up to six months in county jail, a fine of no more than $1,000, or both. However, if the property has a value of $50 or less, the prosecutor can charge the offense as an infraction, so long as the offender has had no other theft-related conviction. Petty theft charged as an infraction is punishable by a fine of no more than $250. (Cal. Penal Code § 490 (2020).)

Snopes: “yeah it happened but there’s no evidence to say criminal first policies and a soft “progressive” justice system was the reason people brazenly steal and security is powerless to stop them!”

This has been discuss a hundred times here. I remember when I first heard about it I thought it had to be fake. But nope, it’s legit. There’s several YouTube videos of this happening in SF and reporters talking on how many shops have closed and left people to drive further to get their meds now.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.
