They were almost $10/each at one point.

I hope you're right OP. I've got a couple projects I've put on hold at our new house hoping it would go back at least close to pre-plandemic pricing.

Even if they go down, I don't think we'll ever see previous prices. And that goes for everything that was overpriced - cars, houses, basic goods, food.

2x4 8 footer was $1 early last year. I don't think it will go down that low again.

Lumber is a commodity and will go down. It might even crash because it follows the same demand/supply patterns as oil.
