The original NYT article didn't say it wasn't tuna.

It said the lab couldn't identify which species it is, probably because it's too processed. Like everything else in the supermarket.

Moral of the story is don't go to Subway, don't read the NYT, and don't read someone's article based on someone else's article. Journalism is dead.

I read something like this but not that they were unsuitable, more so because there are preservatives, flavouring etc, but I would say that accounts for a few percent, not what we're seeing here lol.
