Running my first marathon this Sunday, boyos (srs thread)

it's been a rough few months, boys. cliffs at bottom.

my father kicked me out after staying with the family throughout 'rona. I had a fuk ton of family problems (but who doesn't?). I don't see us having a relationship again. I don't want to either, he's been a spineless kunt my whole life.

I had a really bad crash on my motorcycle. my triumph is wrecked. brain scan was normal though.

my ex, the first and only chick I said the words "I love you" to, left me and chose her friends when I needed someone the most. sloots gon sloot. banged a few girls hotter than her since then. won't be getting attached anytime soon I tell you dat.

this chit was all within the span of a couple weeks back in Jan. felt like life was doing everything to break me down. I was goining through other stuff to, especially isolation and depression. just typical miscer stuff. it's as if I have three states off being, depressed to the point of rope watch, hyper aggressive with people looking for fights, or just being in a state of constant emotionless "numb" detachment from everything.

since then I've been trying to get myself back on my feet, I'm glad the gyms opened up in April for us UK brahs cos I needed an outlet. I got into running before then, signed up for a marathon a few months back too.

I don't give a fuk about the time I finish. I just want to get this done. my knees are still kinda messed up from my crash, but it doesn't matter much.

that's the end of the dear diary, if you read everything thanks I appreciate it. if not here's some cliffs:

tl;dr
-life's been a train wreck this year
-running my first marathon this Sunday

any advice/tips to getting it dun wood be appreciated bros. poverty repping everyone in this

Good on you, although if you haven't trained the run is really going to suck. My advice is to run 10/walk 1 as a break, which will really help you get through it. Pace is everything, so whatever you normally run at slow it down by about :15/km at least and make sure you are hydrated and have lots of calories on hand, usually about 300-500 an hour - and you'll be out there for four hours plus. You don't want to bonk. Good sources are literally PB+J rolled up into balls, bananas and also gels if you can stomach them. Water at every water station and you can do sports drinks too - but make sure you do water.

There's no shame in walking at all just to finish the day during your first race. Enjoy the energy of the people around you. I always used to find a hot girl with tight shorts to follow and called it my pace booty if we were close in speed.

Sorry about all the troubles you have been going through. Best with the marathon. Hope you pull it off! Insanity if you ask me, but some people seem to enjoy it, and as one running friend told me on why he ran, it was for the beer. I guess the running club is full of ranging alcoholics and to keep the weight off they run.

thanks a ton for the advice, I'm looking to get some gels to keep fueld up during the run. any suggestions on brands or are they all the same? with regards to water, what's the amount in litres I should aim for per hour? kinda worried about needing to go to the bathroom mid marathon and throwing my momentum off.

lold at pace booty, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for a pawg. I'm hoping to run but I may have to result in walking if my knees are in too much pain. either way, the objective is to get it done

thanks brah, means a lot. and lol yeah the amount of calories you burn while running is insane, I got into drinking a fair bit in the beginning stages but have cut down now that I'm in a more stable head space

appreciate it man, I feel things are starting to look up.

my longest run was around 13.5 miles around a week ago. my last long run was 8.5 miles last saturday. I'm going to do a 5k tomorrow and a short 20 minute run the day before the marathon. i dropped a lot of weight since everything happened and my cardio has definitely improved. I'm hoping my knees won't disintegrate but it is what it is.

Ran one in Nov 2019

Start slow, 15-30 sec slower than you desired pace.

Hydrate at the stops and take advantage of the “goo” carb gels

At mile 18 it’s just about gutting it out to 26.2

To give your legs a break, walk through the water/goo stations but try not to stop

Enjoy it and remember it’s a pretty cool feat to complete it

Good luck bro!

running is where it's at. I only lift twice a week and run 4 times. You are thinner, happier, and more atheltic instead of lifting like these fat ****s on this forum.

lmao, why not both brah?

after this marathon is over with, I won't be doing any long runs.. but I do plan on improving my 5k time and I'm looking forward to diving deeper into that avenue of training.

Good luck brah. You have this. Relax and go slow. Longest I ever ran was a 1/2 marathon by myself on 3 cups of coffee and a glass of water. Was fine until I had dizzy spells on mile 11. Cowboy'd up and got through it. Sore hips and groin, never again.

Life loves to throw us curveballs. It's how you respond. You became an alpha dawg. Great job. I'm proud of you. Nice to see they're still men in this world.

With a half it's possible to do that because you're out there about two hours. A full is four hours plus and you run out of glycogen typically at about three hours unless you do something about it.

This is like saying I replaced the tile in my bathroom but I can definitely give advice on gutting and rebuilding the plumbing.

Ran a half marathon recently and my knees were like grapefruits afterwards due to partially torn menisci and other knee issues. As others have stated, make sure to take advantage of all the water stations and bring nutrition to eat during. Don't have a large heavy breakfast but make sure to have a carb loaded dinner the night before.

Regardless of how you do, just getting to this point is a significant accomplishment. Proud of you brah

I've only run half marathons and assume the training/prep you've done outweighs any advice I have to offer.

I'm sure the motivation of accomplishment after everything you've been through will give you an extra boost when you need it.

Cheers and hope things keep looking upwards for you after your tough stretch.

GOT IT DONE BOYS. MY KNEES HAVE TURNED TO ASHES BUT WE GOT IT DONE.

it's monday morning and I'm in a fuk ton of pain.. but man I feel good about this hurt that my body is in right now in a sick sadistic way. it's pain that was well earned.

this is one achievement I'll hold on to and remember when times are tough in my life.

thank you all for the solid advice and support you've all shown me in this thread. I appreciate it so much.

tbh if it took longer than 4.30 its not a marathon, and thats being generous

I can't offer you any advice. I'm a horrible runner. I have zero endurance. Therefore, I respect your ability to do something that my fat ass cannot. Way to set a goal and achieve it. GJDM.

I've done dozens of marathons and ultra marathons.

One bit of advice I always give about marathons is:

The first 14km you are all excited about doing a marathon

The second 14km you are really bored, because you have been going for ages and still have ages to go.

The 3rd 14km you are just suffering.

Except I guess you will need to convert that to miles.
