ITT we discuss preparedness for extreme emergencies/nuclear war

Ive decided to make this thread because i feel this is a topic thats not discussed much here and its one that, given whats been happening, must be touched upon. I wanted to start out by listing some items ive collected for some time and i have stored ONLY for emergencies. Lets begin!

1.https://mountainhouse.com/

Freeze dried food

This company makes the best freeze dried food there is and its got a long shelf life of 30 years srs. Recently bought 10 meals and theyll be expiring in 2050 . A second great company is alpineaire. Meals typically cost 5.99 to $10. Depending on your household size it could get pricy which is why I strongly recommend you buy little by little. You can get these at any outdoor world store.

2. 200 gallons of water

I currently have this much ready for any moments notice.

3. Lifestraw

https://lifestraw.com/

Great product. Essentially if you have no water and your city’s water supply is dirty you can use this to filter the water.

4. Chlorine dioxide tablets

Great thing to have if you dont have water or a filter. This helps clean any bacteria in the water.

5. Iodine pills

This is a supplement i pray i never have to use and goes bad but in case of an all out war...well you just dont know. Get enough for the family.

6.goalzero.com

Power generators That dont need gas!
And are powered bysunlight.

This is one i love and had to save up to get. I have used it during hurricane irma and it was beautiful. Highly recommended. They come in different sizes and prices but let me tell you they ****ing work!. Best generators out there.

7. Survival bug out bag pack.

This is is an essential one that you can either build yourself or buy one on amazon for a pretty good price. Some of the ones on amazon have medical kits(get these) but also have fire starting kit and other essential tools.

8. Portable crankable radio

Pretty self explanatory. In case of war or severe hack to our grid the govt will use radio as a means of communicating( hopefully). Outdoor world has one approved by the red cross for 24 bucks. Worth every penny.

9. Self defense weapons

10. Vitamins/omega 3s

In case we are at war, especially nuclear, we are going to make sure our bodies have the vitamins they need because lets be honest here, we are not gonna be eating 6 to 7 meals daily, we are going to be in survival mode and we want to make sure we dont become deficient. I would store vitamins in a place with minimal heat or moisture and lighting to preserve the integrity of the vitamins.

11. Gas

I always make sure i have gas and never go below half a tank.

12. Car battery

Make sure your batteries are in good shape. Your car will be your home if yoh have to bug out and will have plenty of energy to charge your phones and communicate ( unless satellites go down).

13. Maps

In case of war, google maps wont be available I promise you so having a paper map will be a good tool to have. I have maps of all states( except hawaii).

14. Medical book to treat injuries with pictures.

Not everybody is a doctor but having this handy can be the difference of life and death. Currently have one in my bug out bag and have read it cover to cover and will continue to refresh my memory from time to time.

15.Compass

16. Gummy bears/ candy/protein bars( can go in bug out bag or kept in your pantry). Theres actually a brand of protein bars called MRE thats pretty good. Check them out. These can go in your bug out bag.

For morale boost

Please feel free to share any info that could be very useful. Anybody is welcome.

Super cool topic but in reality I have nothing because I’m not bent. I’ve worked out a basic zombie apocalypse plan in my head though where I become head warlord of the local supermarket.

I read an account of a guy whose family got displaced in war-torn Africa. He said the most valuable things were

- Toilet Paper and wet wipes

- Spices (I guess people got tired of eating the same freeze-dried rations day after day)

He also said guns, alcohol, and cigarettes were valuable but more trouble than they were worth. They would attract dangerous people who would try to rob or threaten you. Presumably gold/silver would be the same way.

In the event of nuclear war, your absolute best defense is to not live in America. We are almost certainly going to be involved either as the instigator or the defender (most likely the instigator).

The biggest thing, other than the things i mentioned is being in a sturdy location thats made of concrete and not wood when a bomb goes off. That will increase your chances of survival.

You aren't going to survive a fusion bomb dropped near you. The reason we stopped making shelters is because they are useless. Further out, you'd want to be in an underground bunker, preferably under water as well. Water is good at stopping high energy neutrons.

You’re talking about shelters for the general population or high ranking govt officials? Pretty sure our govt has bunkers in some mountains somewhere.

We do, and they would be useless in a thermonuclear strike. Those shelters were designed for much lower yield bombs than what could be done today. Not everything has a defense. This is where we get to a point where we need to stop behaving like idiots.

This we can agree on. I would hope out government has bunkers strong enough to sustain such powerful nukes...

Anything you have access to. A paintball gun could be very effective for self defense. Few shots to the face of an attacker and its over.

I'll be honest with you...I'd rather not live in a world post-nuclear war. It would be an apocalyptic scenario.
