It seems to be everyones deepest desire (to live on a few acres of land in the middle of nowhere). Meanwhile you'd have countries like China who seemingly work like a hive-mind on the verge of surpassing us in almost every national metric that matters on the world stage.
I guess the point i'm trying to make is, no matter how chitty and expensive and rude and congested places like San Francisco, L.A. New York and DC are, they're necessary evils to keep the US relevant on the world stage.

Dont get me wrong I wouldn't mind a little homestead out in the sticks, but everyone can't live like that.

We should be greatful for those that show up and do the necessary evils of the world. I've always thought this about the artistic types that abhor the "mundane" and speak down to those that keep the lights on and the water flowing, puzzling over how a man can show up to do the same hard, unappreciated work day in and day out. They are enjoying the fruits of society's labors and are lucky enough to not have to produce any.
Talking down to the garbage man is unpatriotic. Wanting to live off grid while understanding that so many others cannot so that you can is self-awareness. Everyone wants out of the rat race and it is only by the virtue that so many get trapped that a few get to be free.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.
The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."
The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

That’s the goal… but off the grid being about 20-30 minutes away from a town and no neighbors for at least a half mile.

The single most important worker in human history is the farmer.
Also "everyone's deepest desire" really?
Most people want to live in the suburbs, vast majority of people do that. I live in a big city and it's alright, but I wouldn't say it makes you more or less patriotic. Patriotism is about love for your country. People out in rural areas are generally more patriotic as well.
Tell you what makes America what it is, it's not big cities or companies or politicians and such.
It's Americans. In the city, in the country, in the suburbs, wherever.
Americans are the reason why America is #1

The US has entered into an unprecedented level of overt corruption. I would argue that someone who really loves their country wouldn't want to contribute to maintaining this crap show that has taken control.
Its the same with the economy. I try to support local small businesses to keep them afloat, especially ones where the people really try to offer good service and are most decent towards me. If at all possible, I avoid buying from Amazon, and have bought things used/second-hand, or just borrowed tools that I would have otherwise bought, just to avoid giving Amazon money. By me not buying something new, it doesn't help the economy, but I'm doing my part by not feeding a monopolistic seller.

If you think places like San Fran or other ghetto chithole are where it's at, you should be thanking those who abandon the cities because the leaders will eventually have to address the underlying issue, and hopefully improve the city conditions.

They are probably just moving to the South and the Midwest for tax and cost of living reasons.

The very idea of that is America in a nutshell. As long as you pay taxes from what you sell and buy then you have the right to be defended by our military, vote, openly disagree with the leaders of the country etc. a certain group is l trying to be ruined right now. Idk to what end whether it be tech advancement or various other things. But it’s very obvious change is in the air.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.

I didn't say yourindividualway of life was bad by any means. I'm saying that everyone cannot live in the "middle of nowhere" and still make American competitive on the world stage.
For example, we can't just bulldoze the entire state of New York and turn it into some woodland farming community and expect to compete with China.

Everyone is definitely not trying to move out to the country. It doesn't seem like anyone is trying to turn NY into a woodland farming community? I feel like someone is influencing your idea of what Americans want in general.
Rural California is really nice, very pretty country out there. The only reason I moved to the big city, just like everyone else, was to get a higher paying job. Now that I finally found a job like this, I'm going back down South and saving up for some land to build a home on.
I don't think everyone is doing the same, I would say very few people are doing this. Most are going in the opposite direction, and I don't think it makes them more or less patriotic.
