How to kindly tell friends to fuk off? (srs)

I have a couple of friends that randomly text me or DMing me just to chat, and it's annoying as fuk.

If they want to make plans I'm with it, but a "wyd" text every other day, with no purpose other than to chat I just can't get behind. Maybe I'm just a mean person, IDK. But I ghost when I get texts like that, and of course I get a text complaining about me ghosting.

note: I semi think I'm the main problem because most people complain that I dont reach out, so if so, how do I get better at this? (srs)

well i would say you could start by reaching out to your friends every once in a while? a phone call or even a text goes a long way in todays world of social autism

I’m exactly the same. My group chats are always going off and sometimes it’s just mad BS and I don’t entertain it unless it’s plans. I think I’m just more introverted than some ppl. Extroverts just wanna talk and talk all the fukin time and I’m not about that life.

That sounds awesome, nobody ever texts me for anything. Unless it’s my parents checking to see if I’m still alive. It would be amazing to have people who care about you and like to spend time with you. I literally have no idea what that feels like, and it’s a very alien feeling like it’s something deep that’s missing in my life. You should be happy.

What can you get behind? (No homo) What's your expectation, would you rather meet up than text people? Make calls? Have convos with more substance? Honestly I'm not a fan of wyd crap either, just sounds like it's my role to entertain a bored person, but I enjoy chit chatting over text. So I'm wondering what would ideal communication look like to you? Then come to a compromise.

I don’t blame you. I always thought “wyd” was reserved for the gf/wives/fk buddies. The men folk I’m associated with only text to meet up or might send a funny article or something brief

To me, that's an opening to just text and chat and shoot the chit. If you're friends I don't see why that's an issue

I’m the same way. If a buddy calls just to bullchit I’m not interested. I call buddies to make plans to meet up and go fishing or something. I’ve noticed it’s mainly friends who are locked down with kids or a wife that do this catch up crap.

I know you feel OP, I get that crap sometimes to. Someone will call me just to see what's up, and it sounds like they are trying to make conversation. I'm the type where I only want to talk if there is something worth bringing up, like a great movie I saw or some awesome new music I found, something cool happened to me, etc. I get bored as all fug if someone wants to call me with "Hey, did you hear what they said on CNN/MSNBC/FOX/etc ?"

but oddly enough if they wanted me to come to their place to shoot the chit and talk about that crap, I would rather do that than over the phone. It's weird, I guess, but I know you feel.

In my late 20s I started talking over the phone more to my close friends and family.
Way better than texting.

Get better by not being angry when they reach out?

Move the conversations to the computer. You like typing and bullsh!tting on Misc. Have your friends message you on a social media app you can type on. I get texting can be annoying, I hate typing sh!t on a phone. But when people talk to me on ******** I can have stoned convos that go hours.

If they are liberal just start praising Trump. Liberals lack the maturity to respect people with different opinions.

You sound like a terrible friend. If you cared about your friends you wouldn't mind just chatting with them to just chat. Let me tell you why I think you are annoyed with a "wyd" text every other day: It's because you think that spending the time thinking about your answer, sending your reply, then having to possibly continue the conversation, is a waste of time for you. Heck, I bet receiving the message notification itself on your phone irritates you since you've associated the sound/vibration with "ugh, what waste of time".

I googled "friends who only hang out when going out". Result:7 Types of Toxic Friends to Avoid.

You are the closest match to the first description on that list, The User:
This type of friend is sometimes called a fair-weather friend. The User seems to be there for you, make plans with you, and even invite you places—that is, until something better comes along. This friend is always looking for a way to improve their social status or to find a romantic partner. They also do not want to be alone on the weekends. But once you have served your purpose, they will be gone.

That is how I view you based from reading your post. And when you're like The User, you have an abundance offriendsacquaintances. However, you couldn't care less about them beyond getting together to hang out.

Maybe in actuality you are not a terrible friend but recently you have been feeling overwhelmed. If so, just be honest with your friends. Otherwise, you are probably at a point in your life where it's better to cut down your social circle to people you care about, as Silencespeaks suggested.

Perhaps it's just a mismatch in communication styles? I'm also one of those face-only types who prefer to talk in person as opposed to texting. Rectifying mismatch in communication styles can be negotiated, provided you want to preserve the relationship.

Maybe say something like this:

"Hey man, I appreciate your intent, but srs I'm a bare-bones text guy and rather keep it that way. Gotta cull my text channels to stay on point if you catch my drift. How about shoot me a text when you're aware of the next meetup/rally point and we'll play catch up in person? Hope you're cool with this, and thanks in advance for respecting my texting practice/ boundaries."

However, if it's a deeper issue, such as you are not good friends, or had a fallout and no longer on good terms, etc. than that's a whole other issue. Which goes way beyond texting.

Like others have said, this is a good problem to have.

I'd just tell them you only use texting for logistics.

I talk to my friends regularly. Call them each a few times a week. If we text anything it's stupid bantz or memes or whatever. Just call your bros. It's nicer to have someone to talk to then to not.

You sound like you are exactly the type of dude that the OP is complaining about lol. An energy vampire, calling others bad person just because they have diff personalities.

OP, I’m exactly the same. Most close friends I have know me pretty well by now, I like to be by myself 95% of the time, and by now they just know if they reach to me it better be for something good, or just to catch up after a long time of being Missing. However when we do talk or meet up it’s always an amazing time, so
I guess they rather have my friendship for a little amount of time every once in a while rather than nothing at all.

I have one friend that gets clingy like a girl. Like he complains if I don’t text back or can’t pick up a call. He’s extremely extroverted, can’t be by himself for more than a few hours so he’s always looking for people to talk with. I’ve already ghosted him a few times and he gets mad as fuk lol, until we randomly talk again and it’s like nothing happened.

You just gotta accept yourself first, then see if people will accept you. If they don’t, then it’s cool, you can’t change your personality just to keep people around you.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

This thread is pretty weird. Bunch of guys complaining about their friends messaging them. Is it because it interferes with them talking to strangers on the misc all day?

Yeah I don't contact people just to shoot the breeze; that said while I have friends and we like each other, I am not particularly close to anyone except my wife. So just understand if you have this kind of practical attitude coupled with being past the age where you're catching up with people all the time, you're unlikely to have super best friends. That said I don't have the energy for those kind of friendships so it works for me.
