Beloved Burger Chains That Have Closed/closing For Good

1. Cheeseburger in Paradise

In September of 2020, Cheeseburger in Paradise shuttered its last remaining location in Secaucus, New Jersey. It's not clear as to when exactly the adored burger chain officially closed its doors, because the website only lends the following insight: "Thank you for supporting Cheeseburger in Paradise. All of our restaurant locations are now permanently closed."

2. Steak nโ€™ shake
โ€œThe iconic burger and shake chain that has been open since 1934 closed nearly 70 locations over the first half of 2020. In May of that year, 306 Steak 'n Shake locations were still in operation, however, the chain was actively looking to sell many corporate-owned sites to those who wanted to franchise them. Since then, 18 more sites have closedโ€

3. Whataburger

โ€œIn April 2020, the company announced that some employees in the corporate office were being laid off and others furloughed. And a few months later in June, when many Whataburger locations began to reopen their dining rooms at a limited capacity, more layoffs ensued in the corporate office.โ€œ

4. Fuddruckers
This burger favorite originated in texas in 1980 but has seen a steady drop in sales for a while now. In early 2019, its parent company, Luby's, said they were closing some locations and in March 2020, five of those stores closed temporarily due to the pandemic.

By June 2020, Luby's announced that the whole company was up for sale in order to pay off outstanding debts, putting the future of "the world's greatest hamburgers" at Fuddruckers up in the air. In September, Luby's Inc. announced it was selling assets after having to shut down operations at all of its locations in the spring.

It's actually really decent for the price

The only ones in my region were Red Robin and Wendy's. Red Robin is... OK. They need to fck off with the "gourmet burgers" false advertising, tho. The bottomless steak fries are OK but you get tired of eating them before you're even full. Wendy's is good (chicken sangwiches are goat) and I would say better than Burger King and McDonard's. However I don't eat as burger joints so meh.

Meanwhile the one In n Out in a 30 mile radius of me has a line going around the parking lot. Never tried it, tho. I'm always disappointed by hyped up fast food.

Fuddruckers was legit my favorite hamburger place. Was devastated when I heard they went under.

I can't even imagine Whataburger ever going out of business. The crazy Texans love that chit.

Im a fan of BK because they had a veggie garden burger before any other national chain.

In and outโ€™s fries I hate. Their burgers look no better than what you can make at home. Vs like five guys

Wow Roy Rogers brings back memories I remember going there as a little kid, and used to think it was amazing.

Lol there's a steak n shake like 10 mins away from me, but I haven't eaten there in many yrs. The funny thing is when I lived farther away from it than I do now I used to go there all the time while home from college with friends it was the hang out spot at 3 am after a night out as it was open 24/7. I doubt it is anymore...now I'm curious maybe I'll drive by there tomorrow.

The โ€œwhataburgerโ€ that opened in my city years ago before covid was chit. T

Good riddance.

Wendyโ€™s faced financial issues before. Not as popular as the chit tier chains like McDonaldโ€™s and BK but better food. Probably higher food cost squeezing them. The one by me had a very evident drop in quality pre Covid.

Fuddruckers was legit.

Forgot about Fuddruckers.

And Whataburger was never a presence here in the Nashville area, but we stopped there when we went to the beach a few times. I didn't know they closed.

Yeah if anything, they may be expanding. I just googled it and it looks like they're planning to open nine locations in Nashville over the coming year.

Fuddruckers back in the late 80s was solid. Worked there for awhile. Used to bring in the sides of beef and butcher them. Fresh buns daily and the cheese sauce was thick out of a can, not the powdered stuff they mix with hot water now.

BK's tomatoes were sliced so thin that they were transparent. That's how much they cut costs. Also they watered down their mayo.

They eventually started making things better again but it was way too late.
