Best Friend Died, Hold Me Misc. Srs
Title says it all. One of my best friends passed away yesterday, its hard to believe that he is gone. We were inseparable for many years (2009-2019) before he had his car accident and subsequent pain killer abuse problem. His life was in complete shambles for a few years but it seemed that he was on the right path recently. Successfully completed rehab, moved away from bad influences and in with his parents, ect. He has been radio silent for a couple of months now, it wasnt uncommon for us to drift in and out of communications. Over those months I texted him a few times telling him that I love him and that I wanted to see him, they were left unanswered. Its looking like he fell back into his old habits and OD'ed in a hotel room where he wasnt found till the next day. Im going to miss my best friend, this wasnt the man I knew and loved...

We're all gonna make it bra.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

Had a very similar experience, as unfortunately probably millions of Americans now.
My boy got in car accident. Injured his back. Addicted to pain killers. Eventually turned to heroin. Died in another car accident that I can only assume was drug related. Pulled out in front of a semi.
Been 4 years now. Can't bring myself to delete his number from my phone. Still keep a beer in fridge for him.
RIP Rico.
Sorry to hear OP.

Best friend of 6 years hung himself when we were 19. Found the body. Luckily I’m pretty cold and it was one of those “damn that’s crazy” called cops, and moved on immediately but I think I can understand how it can effect people long term.
Just cherish the good times man. That’s all you can do.

Sorry to hear this. One thing with recovering addicts, it's a very dangerous situation for them. Sometimes you tragically see them relapse and OD. They get cleaned up, lose tolerance or resistance and when they fall off the wagon, they might hit it too hard trying to chase the dragon or thinking they are up to it like they might have gotten away with back when they were using constantly.
A real damn shame. Just be very careful about yourself, what you put into your own bodies and if you have loved ones making mistakes, try and be there for them as best as you're able. A lot of addicts start to use in the first place for underlying reasons.

Condolences brah. Lost my brother to suicide last year. Always had a problem with alcohol, it runs in the family. So do I
Now that im thinking about it, he had a bad motorcycle accident about a year before. He lifted, but after that all he could do for months was heal and play video games with a good buzz. But I didn't really think about what pain pills he was prescribed since then. Im sure he was mixing them with alcohol.
Just made me start to appreciate a healthy mind/brain. It's gotta be tough when you start losing control of your own mind. But so many, including myself abuse the sh*t out of our brains with drugs/alcohol.

Sorry for your loss, op.
A lifelong friend of mine (28 years) took his own life New Year's Eve of 2019/2020. I think about him everyday. Sometimes I have dreams and he is in them.
It sucks. Honor and cherish his memory. Take care of the friends still with you and really appreciate them.

The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.
