Skipping YouTube ads

Is it just me or does that last second hang on for a split second longer?

YouTube is absolutely **** tier with ads. Especially on iPhone

Recommend an ad blocker pls

I use adblock origin on PC. Only place I havent seen it working was on FB but then again who tf uses fb anymore.


Get youtube vanced for mobile. Its wellknown and safe. Just dont install the microg (or whatever its name is) addition that comes with it

Ad blockers don't typically work that well due to YouTube using the same domain to host ads, they don't come from third party domains, if it did it would be a piece it cake to block them out. I use Pihole and it's great, blocks out everything whilst browsing just YouTube who slips throuh the net

Just use some indian vpn and pay for their premium lol. brb less than $1/month to browse ad free everytime and background play? worth it

Why no MicroG? I thought it was required, but then again I use a burner gmail account to separate vanced from my main account so maybe my setup is different

Ublock Origin and Adblock Plus together block all the ads online for free, including video. Pages load much, much faster, and everything is easier to use. It's night and day.

On android, you can use an app called dns66 through f-droid that blocks ad traffic on every app you use. There is also a third-party youtube app called newpipe that blocks ads and allows you to do things like build personal playlists and play audio in the background. It's pretty good.

There are also ways to block ads through DNS across your entire home wireless access point. I haven't done this before, but it's worth looking up if you want to stop all ads at the source of your home internet connection. I prefer to block them just on my device, as I end up using internet in different places.

Hope this info helps someone. Ironically, I've been writing ads for years for work, and I just can't stand seeing them myself. From behind the scenes, I can see how people would avoid ads.

You can use Adguard DNS for free. I prefer NextDNS for modular control. DNS won't block YouTube ads.

You don't need two browser addons if you have Ublock Origin setup correctly. Update your lists or settings, or add more lists.

Newpipe is good and safe, but slower than Vanced, IMO

Edit: on newer Android versions you don't need a third party app to change the DNS

im using ublock on edge
used ad block plus on firefox. both seem good
pc master race

but i know firefox has mobile download as well. I have a few buddies who dont have adblock and its weird af when watching youtube streaming in the vehicle. ads in the middle of the show, some times back to back ads you cant skip. just lol at not using an ad blocker. i even told him bout ad blockers but he is scared of them i guess yet he downloads all the mainstream apps that track you JUST LOL

No its not required. You only need it if you wanna sign in with your google account through vanced.

This means you are giving them your login data. And if you have access to someones google account you'll have all his private data. Just to be on the safe side use Vanced without logging in.

Why would you need that anyway? To post comments? Your youtube recommendations will be set to your liking fully after like 25th video you watch

You have to login to see age restricted videos. At least in the US

I use the browser Brave and don't get any youtube ads ever.

And then the ads I see on other websites, I get paid to see them

If you are pretty good with technical stuff, this is a more advanced option that lets you control things on a modular level:

Blocking ads at the DNS level is sometimes hit and miss. You can't really block YouTube ads with it because the ads are served from the same domain, but it is somewhat helpful for services like Hulu. Sometimes you have to tweak it, at least with NextDNS, to not break streaming

Edit: some YouTube ads might be blocked with DNS, but not all

To clarify what I was talking about above, and what is in one of the articles you posted, I put my ad blocking DNS settings on my router.

I then change the system DNS on my Android so that way ad blocking still works when I am on mobile data and away from my router

I recently switched from chrome to safari technology preview and noticed AdBlock blocks everything on youtube--the videos themselves won't even play. I have to turn it off, which enables the ads, just to watch videos on youtube. Adblocking on youtube didn't work at all on chrome.
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

This. Although the last few months I've had the odd ad slip through.
With their app I constantly get the pop up message for Youtube premium. Good luck getting me to pay for that. Must have clicked no thanks 100 fukkin times.
Whenever I see a video that's full of ads I watch in brave browser or download it with youtube downloader.
