Death toll counting
Must admit I have been enjoying the daily Covid stat reporting from the UK government... just from an interest point of view.
It has also been an incredibly effective tool in scaremongering the general public...
So why can’t we report daily deaths from other stuff such as Heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes etc?
The daily deaths of people WITH covid (not even necessarily even FROM covid) caused a massive amount of people to want to throw all of their freedoms and life’s little luxuries away... so maybe these same people will be scared into putting down the cake or cigarette if they saw chit like obesity/smoker related deaths per day?
Just food for thought tbh.

I wish people took alcohol and smoking as seriously as covid. We'd dramatically improve society. Fewer heart attacks, fewer strokes, fewer rapes, fewer cases of domestic violence and child abuse, fewer car accidents, fewer assaults, and the most important one of all -- fewer suicides.

For all these alleged infections, I only know one guy who actually tested positive and he felt absolutely fine.

So maybe we just need to hit hard with the same death toll reporting that is being used for Covid? Might wake some folks up?

I mean people have known about the harms of alcohol and smoking for decades. They kill more people than covid btw.

For every 1 covid death in 2020, the NET GAIN to world population was +31
Let that sink in.

Lol, I hope nome of you guys are thinking I am even slightly inferring that the Government should force its citizens to eat a certain way or stop people drinking etc...
All I am suggesting is to give the people daily factual information about hospitalisations and deaths of lifestyle related afflictions.
If an diabetic obese person catches the news at 6 and it has a little list of the days death statistics and they see that 600 people have died today from the beetus... might make them stop and think, and then they can make a more informed decision on that takeaway they were thinking of ordering.
Why not use the reporting infrastructure that has been created for Covid and utilise it to help tackle our other health concerns? Let people do what they want but bombard them with information about the consequences.

Something similar happened in the U.S. after 9/11. People were (and still are actually) perfectly content to lose some liberty for protection.

Did you see the project veritas with the CNN guy talking about why they have stats showing 24/7?
Go watch it. It's the exact same thing. BBC is no better than CNN.

I get what you are saying but it shouldn’t be for the government to create nutritional guidelines, it’s up to the individual to know and monitor their own health. Most obese people are aware that they are fat, they are also aware that they are gaining or that they are pre-diabetic for instance. So seeing the news that 600 people today died from obesity related diabetes might just be the kick up the backside they needed to be a bit more careful with their own health?
On a similar note, we have a “daily recommended calorie allowance” printed on most of our foods. Puts women at 2000 kcals a day.... That is a massive amount for my body. I am only 5ft1, and my BMR is around 1300 kcals... If I ate 2000 kcals a day and lived an average sedentary lifestyle... I would be gaining about a lb a week! So I take issue with that sort of guidance being spouted at people when it can vary so much. People need to be accountable for themselves, just give some some proven facts and let them make the choice.
Just something like this...
Daily deaths (not real stats obvs!)
Lung cancer - 450
Diabetes - 600
Heart disease - 650
Covid -65
Childbirth - 3
Domestic murder - 2
Labrador attacks - 9000+
Then people can either go “oh ****, I am diabetic/getting battered about/own a Labrador... that could be me, how can I reduce my risk?!”... or “Meh, won’t happen to me”. Up to them.

Even if you did have it, this faulty testing method vastly inflates the figures reported in the media regarding its danger and spread.
So the virus may not actually pose any danger at all.

They do report on obesity all the time. It is common knowledge that obesity is very bad for your health.

Oh also the fitness industry, which benefits from scamming people into thinking they can exercise their way out of a bad diet or look like a god without medical enhancements.
All of these competing interests make it impossible to get the word out.
When you consider how influential Wal Mart, Coca Cola, and McDonalds are, it should come as no shocker why there is no aggressive ad campaign for improving the health of citizens. The only reason people are taking covid seriously is that covid presents a tangible risk to the economy and the ability of our beloved companies to operate efficiently.

People know the risks anyway and still eat like chit and smoke/drink. It'll be interesting to see if a daily death toll would change that. It doesn't matter anyway, whatever they want these people to do they can get them to do it.

Remember when Bloomberg tried to tax sugary drinks and ban stuff like the big gulp? It was met with massive resistance. At best, we can try to get more doctors on TV to advocate for a helathy lifestyle. It would be helpful.
I suspect that covid has made people more aware of public health in general. That is the silver lining of all of this.

Obesity related illness costs our NHS over £5billion a year... and that figure is increasing every year.
Funny that it’s mostly the fat POS here in the UK bleating about wanting more lockdowns to help save the NHS from being overstretched and about nurses poor wages etc... they don’t give a crap about the toll of their fatness on the NHS though.
That £5billion could go a long way to improving our health care system, or even just giving our wonderful nurses a bit of pay increase.
But nah, to them, cake is clearly more important than the NHS, and since they want lockdowns to help the NHS.... then the NHS is more important than our freedom...
So cake > free society.

Standard coke/Fanta for instance is more expensive than their sugar free counterparts.Remember when Bloomberg tried to tax sugary drinks and ban stuff like the big gulp? It was met with massive resistance. At best, we can try to get more doctors on TV to advocate for a helathy lifestyle. It would be helpful.
I suspect that covid has made people more aware of public health in general. That is the silver lining of all of this.

Did nearly all other healthcare stop for 2020 in the UK like it did in the US? We had a large number of people dying from a heart attack, strokes, their diabetes last year because they were afraid to go to the hospital. And suddenly cancer diagnosis disappeared last year because people were screened, so many thousands of excess cancer deaths are built into the next few years. Ditto on cardiovascular issues. Similar in the UK?

Natural, cold pressed juice prices are already insane, and robbing the world of these is honestly pretty fked up imo. I'm pretty sure if the govt banned my Columbia Gorge OJ or my blackberry smoothies, I'd have to lead a violent revolution. I mean I can always make them at home, but it costs even more than buying the premade stuff, and I end up with a lot more smoothie than I wanted and would ever be considered healthy lol.Not something I would remember tbh. We now have a “sugar tax” here in UK. Standard coke/Fanta for instance is more expensive than their sugar free counterparts.

She didn’t die of Covid, but her death was helped along nicely by lockdown.
