As someone who spent roughly 6 months in the New York State foster care system, I will never in my life take on the responsibility of caring for a foster kid. While I obviously have some level of sympathy, these bastards come from such broken backgrounds that they’re nearly impossibly to deal with. Some of them act like demon incarnates. A childhood friend of mine literally beat the fuk out of a councilor, ran away from his home and ended up with severe frostbite, they almost had to amputate his feet. He ended up in a street gang and is no longer living srs. This is the norm, not the exception to the rule.

I have the utmost respect for the selfless individuals who do care for these problem children, but I’d rather avoid that fuking headache.

That's what people told me too. But earning my keep as a sex slave at age 5 (year when I was thrown out of foster care) is not humane. Why do the labor laws against child labor not apply to foster kids born in the USA?

I understand how rescue children are viewed. I was seen as scum that was better off dead. I actually tried to off myself a few times as a kid because I couldn't take the unceasing hate. Even perfect children are mostly detested by their parents, but after the world has acknowledged that a child has been traumatized, no one wants to go anywhere near them. It's practically a requirement here in the south to lie about foster care. "Everything in my life was perfect," is what you're supposed to say. But then, if foster care was important in forming who I am, my morals, my work ethic, my Judeo Christian values, then you can't know me unless I tell the truth. Fact is, no one wants to know me because there are so many undamaged people that dealing with "damaged goods" isn't really worth it. But that's just life. I fought hard against it when I was in my twenties, but now I just body build.
I made this post with the hopes that if any of you ever do take on foster kids that you will know what a gift you are giving them by giving them a fit fam. I'm just trash to most. But at the gym I can be in the same space as normal people, and have this amazing quality of life. It's a massive gift.
