My family lived in SF and right outside of Oakland from 2007-2019. It was amazing to see it go from a pretty fuarking amazing place to live to an absolute chitshow in such a short time. The only really loony place used to be Berkeley, but now it's basically all Berkeley.

Happiest days of my life were when I moved there, and when I left.

This was a big push under the 0bama admin. My grandparents used to live in a very nice retirement area in FL, one of the safest mid to small sized towns after they retired early (2nd generation immigrants, lived in a literal chicken coop while saving and opened a successful business).

Under the 0bama admin, the city got an unelected housing development department, brought in many low income housing units and the city council renamed a street to MLK Blvd where the units were being built. Even more low income units are currently being built. You literally have million dollar waterfront homes with low income units a block away. It makes no ****ing sense to do this in a city where the cost of living is high and where the median age is like 72 and built around a retirement vibe, it's such a weird flex. There aren't jobs in the area besides service industry. It's also odd in a city that's 90%+ white and retired to see granny walking past a mural of rap pioneer.

Of course drugs and crime have followed. They loved it there but were happy to move away.
