Wasps that come from the ground

Anyone have these fukkers before? They are ruining my backyard fun currently.

I got foam wasp killer with a tube nozzle but it says only for nests above ground.

had one at the base of one my apple trees last year
got stung on the eyebrow while watering it
fkn bastards

i would wait until the coldest part of the day and then pour something they really wouldn't enjoy down the hole

Yes. Down here we have some called yellow jackets. They don't hurt as bad as hornets or red velvet wasps but they aren't fun to deal with. The nuclear option is to pour gas on it.

When I was little I went on a father/son fishing tournament with my dad. Found a nice open spot but we had to go through the woods a bit to get to it so I decided to lead the way. Halfway there I stepped on a ground wasp nest.... Got stung about 15 times and chased for about 500 ft. Now I have a fear of anything with a stinger.

I go out of my way to kill wasp/hornets whenever I see them.

Ground Hornets, I have them, too.

The easiest way to kill them is, once you locate the hole in the ground...place a clear glass bowl upside down over the hole.

They won't try to find a new way out if they can see and will eventually suffocate.

I get cicada killers - they're huge and nasty looking and they like to bump into you when you walk past their multiple nests that pop up every summer along my front walk.

But they are pretty much harmless to humans, docile enough people pick them up and hold them. But they are so freaky looking I've had delivery drivers refuse to come up my walk cause they are flying around.

I got stung by 15 of these little bastards a couple years ago out in the woods. Was trying to rip a small downed tree off a trail and they had a nest at the base of the tree in the ground where the stump was. There were at least another 20 on my clothes that couldn't get to my skin. They got me good.

i had yellow jackets underground beneath a bush so i couldnt apply poison w/o getting attacked. waited for the first freeze and then dug up the nest and beat the **** out of the queen with a shovel.

was very satisfying

You might try peppermint oil and water to dilute. Then spray it around their nest.

I don't know if it works or not but I would say if you covered the hole with something, they would dig a different tunnel because that one is blocked. Or even a non-transparent bowl. But using the glass bowl, they don't understand glass and they are already out of the tunnel they are going to fly around smashing into the bowl until they die

I have a clear glass pie dish over one hole right now...it's been there for a week or so and they're all dead...none of them dug their way out.

I'd go out and visit with them from time to time, just to tease them as they were dying because they stung the sh*t of of me and my dog.

I'd go take a picture, but I'm too lazy...the dish is still there.

On a side note, if you want to kill them faster dump a bit of dirt around the edges of the bowl to seal it up. I didn't do this for the first few days and they were all super active still and super pissed.

Sucks to be a ground hornet.

Carpenter bees? They're nasty. Always have them outback of my condo in summers and have to email the association to come get rid of them
