Do people think governments / elites care?

Do people genuinely believe that governments and the rich elites actually care about the average citizen?

That they are largely benevolent entities comprised of individuals who act and enact rules and policies for nothing more or less than the health and well-being of you and me?

It’s actually impressive that more people aren’t suspicious or cynical of the powers-that-be, especially when you look at their words and actions and considers how hypocritical and often corrupt these people are.

however most of them care about taking as much power/control/wealth out of it as they can - those types of power/control/wealth-hungry leaders and politicians must be properly-controlled by properly-designed constitutional mechanisms and/or the people one way or another ... because when they are not as we have now, you get a runaway chain reaction of totalitarianism as we have evolving now
