Who Would You Cast As The Punisher?

Who do you guys think would do a good job as Frank Castle (The Punisher)? I thought Thomas Jane did a fantastic job in the 2004 film, he had the personality down perfectly. He had the cold, calm demeanor. He did a great job at playing a damaged man.

Ray Stevenson looked the part but the film was horrible, same thing can be said for Dolph Lundgren.

Jon Bernthal didn’t do a good
job at all, there was so much about his character in the Netflix series that just wasn’t in line with how that character acts in the comics. It really was a poor performance, and I don’t understand why it was so praised. He played him as little more than an angry man. I say that as a fan of his work generally, Shane Walsh is one of my favorite characters in a TV show ever.

But I was wondering if they were to do another Punisher film or series, who would be a good choice for the role? I was thinking Jon Hamm, but I think he’s better suited for Batman. Then I thought Henry Cavill but he was already Superman, then I thought Tom Hardy but he is Eddie Brock (Venom).

The character should ideally be somewhere between late 30s and late 40s, have blue eyes, dark hair, and needs to be white, a bonus if the actor is Italian or can pass as Italian. His background is that he is the son of Sicilian immigrants, with his real name being Francis Castiglione. He changed it during his service in the Marine Corps. I think height while being tall is a bonus isn’t necessary, as long as the actor is average height or taller it shouldn’t be an issue.

Didn’t mind John bernthal in Netflix series at all. He has the voice for it. I thought he was Latino when I first watched lol.

Ray Stevenson was good, he’s just didn’t have a good supporting cast and the film was not good. He was a great Punisher, especially in terms of appearance.

He was the best, however he’s a lot older now and his hairline receded a lot. Maybe if they were going for an older Punisher, I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing him to reprise the role.

Cillian Murphy? He’s a great actor but he’s only 5’7-5’8 range. That might be a little too short for the role.

He’s very narrow shouldered and he has brown eyes for one. That can be overlooked, however as a character his Punisher was trying to plead with a domestic terrorist not to kill himself, he was talking about rap music, a bunch of things that are uncharacteristic of the Punisher. That isn’t Bernthals fault as much as it is the writers, but the personality of his character was not at all like the comics. Thomas Jane nailed that with an A+ rating and he looked more the part. While Ray Stevenson looked nearly as close to the part as you can get, but lacked a little bit on the personality. Both were far better than Bernthal.

Well he’s an Ashkenazi Jew, so he’s half European and half Middle Eastern. He doesn’t look white to me, maybe he can pass in parts of Southern Europe but to me he has a stereotypical Jewish look and it doesn’t fit The Punisher look. I know what you mean though when I first saw him on The Walking Dead I thought he was Mexican-American, but when I found out he was Jewish that made a lot of sense. He does have a look that plenty of Jews have. There is an actor/boxer named Sammy Horowitz who looks a lot like him.

My pick would be Wes Bentley, I think he has the look and the acting chops. The only issue is he probably weights about 150-155lbs at 5’10.25. He would need to pack on some mass. Another choice was Jake Gyllenhaal but he plays Mysterio in Spider-Man now.

I can’t stand Frank Grillo, I don’t think he as the acting ability for the role either. At least not in a legitimate Hollywood movie, maybe if it was some cheap film like Punisher Warzone.

I agree that Thomas Jane is The Punisher, I find it hard to picture anybody toping his performance. You never know though, many people thought Heath Ledger’s Joker couldn’t be topped and many people think Joaquin Phoenix’s did just that.

To be honest there's not many imposing good action stars anymore, couldn't think of any off the top of my head.

Maybe Scott Eastwood, his dark side in the movie Diablo was pretty imposing srs. Could see him pull of The Punisher.

Well the problem is that many of them already play a comic character, so they can’t really play another one, at least not on as notable as The Punisher.
