Two paths, homesteading or moneymaxxing

Tl;dr-
Chit storm a' brewing and looking like it may develop into hurricane. Homestead, or moneymaxx?

Considering the chit storm that started in '20, bled into '21, and is likely to affect us for the foreseeable future I'm seriously thinking of altering my course. This pandemic is really the tip of the iceberg though when considering where we are as a country.

I came to Omaha from Southern California for the purpose of buying a house, raising my family in a decent city and being able to avoid bullschit. I wanted it to be a simple life, and so far it's turning out ok.

However with the current administration and the surrounding festivities I feel life on this track might get harder and less doable. I simply cannot take it. Perhaps I'm reading too much and my perspective is shot, but I fear for my kids and their future. It's a clownworld parade.

So I'm considering either moneymaxxing for now to have more options in 2-4 years should we actually have a SHTF moment, or say fukkit and buy a piece of property in the sticks with some acreage and plug away at my own pace. The case for each:

Moneymaxx-I'm already in the city, access to everything and am living cheap. All I would have to do is work an extra day or 2 a week and I can shovel cash into savings and prepare for my next move. Presents more options in 2-4 years being I'll have a fatter cash cushion. Easier to integrate with my current setup and can stop at anytime. Cons-real estate might go up. Little old to moneymaxx (30s) and already have 2 kids. Came here so I didn't have to work 50-60 hours a week, it's actually nice being able to get by here and have time with my family, giving that up would suck. Wife would be stressed as fuk with me working OT again...

Homesteading-Able to homeschool kids myself. Whatever business I setup I can easily integrate my kids into, and more time with family. Away from chit tier people and influences. One of my kids has autism and tho mom does well, having me there makes life exponentially less stressful for everyone. I've got a few skills and the ability to learn more. Have built furniture, know how to make soap, have deep understanding of aquariums and can build up a breeding business-just some options beside the old raising chickens stuff homesteaders typically do. Cons-acreage isn't super cheap and price might come down in some years time. Socially isolating, for us and kids. Access to basic amenities is further. Have always lived city life, might be a rough adjustment. Don't have a chit ton of money or land, so am severely limited and may be fukt if I can't make it.

Regardless, I'm truly interested in finding out about homesteading. Anyone give it a shot or thought about it?

There's a chit ton of support programs for homesteading, I forgot to mention that part. Thanks for the reminder as I didn't even include it in my personal pro/con list.

Living in Nebraska now, but hear Iowa is more supportive. Looking at Indiana too.

Honestly I don't see a need for moneymaxxing with a homestead as the whole point is to get away from ratrace chit. For younger brahs with no kids that would def be the way to go if they can take the isolation.

For the past twenty years I've busted my ass. I honest to god suffered. But now I look around and it seems I clawed out a place for myself. Instead of telling myself that I have no where else to go, the fact is, I don't have anywhere this nice. Still hurts like hell that my foster family has stonewalled me. But fukem.

Found a tiny tiny 2 bedroom house on 10 acres for 100k. Very fukkin tempted. Seems everything with acreage is expensive AF compared to just a few years ago tho.
