Should I leave California permanently?

Grew up in bay area. Told myself if they reimplemented covid restrictions after lifting the mask mandate June 16, I'd go to new york. They couldn't keep a lid on it for more than 6 weeks before regressing back to putting muzzles on everybody again.

I've been spending the past year and a half here on-and-off as a way of hedging my bets if things went south in California. I like it way better here (no masks, way less BS) but all of my lifelong friends and my father are in the bay area but tbh maybe it's time to let them go. It seems like that state is ****ed. It's never going to reopen

At least new york doesn't have a fking mask mandate.

And it's part of new england, there's pennsylvania / maryland / connecticut nearby if things go ****ty. In california the only state that's even remotely close by that you can escape to is nevada, and that state is just as bad as california

Live in Oakley, lived in the area all my life except for college. I've thought about moving like every day for the last 4 years but I just can't do it because pretty much my entire family lives within 15min of each other.

I'd gtfo if I were in your position. You can always fly in to visit your pops. I've got a wife and kid so I'm staying put for family reasons.

I forgot to mention, my dad moved to Reno in 2012. So I basically have zero family there. But Reno ain't great either.

If it was just the masks I'd stay. It's the fact that they keep changing the rules every month. Which causes business closures, events being cancelled... and just like, general uncertainty of what's gonna happen week-by-week.

yeah m8 the northeast is great if you respect good food and love cold weather in the winter months. no better area in the US imo. but I question your thinking when it comes to NY being less totalitarian than California -- if already taken the vaccine then you gucci

If I lived in California I'd probably want to leave just on virtue of the liberals and fact that its an incubator for influencer/tiktok culture. High taxes aside, it seems like that is the last place to be if you are moderate to right leaning politically

I find that hard to believe. They have worse anyways....mandatory vaccinations for everyone.

I'm in Sac and there's like 30-60% compliance with masks right now, depending on the venue. The most compliant places being college campuses. People are over it.

I'm not in the Bay, but am North of Sacramento. If I were in your position I'd get out. This state is only going to get worse.

Me and the wife are trying to hold off a few more years and then plan to leave at some point.

NYer here, proof of vaccinations started today for indoor gyms and restaurants. Also, please do not come here from the Bay Area, we have enough of you thanks to tech companies coming here. Williamsburg can barely hold in the phayggotry and I do not want Manhattan to turn into the passive aggressive Silicon Valley trash, plus your women are some of the most hideous in the entire nation.

Don't worry, I hate the bay area too. It used to be decent in the 90s, before the dot com boom. Plus, only the beautiful women from my hometown ended up moving here.
