Could insurance companies drop/deny insurance to unvaxxed?

Saw an article yesterday where a patient was denied a procedure because he was unvaxxed. Got me thinking, if they really wanted to corner us, the insurance companies could drop or deny insurance to people who aren't vaxxed. I think this would be one of the most inhumane forms of persuasion they could pursue aside from physical force.

Any high iq micers want to chime in?

Well it would save me 5k in premiums per year but not sure how I'd feel about not being protected if I got seriously injured.

Pretty sure I already got an email saying I can't go in for routine appointments or anything unless I get vaccinated first.

I don't think they could drop you, especially not if it's through your employer. But I wouldn't be surprised if they added a fee for unvaxxed people similar to what they do with smokers.

Probably not, but I can see if certain employers mandating it because their rates are going up bc of occurrence of high cost patients due to COVID stays.

impossible, libtards would come to your defense with their consistent and logical ethical framework. See healthcare is a human right and so should be free to everyone and provided by the benevolent overlords. If it is a basic human right they couldnt possibly advocate to deny that human right to the disproportionately ethinic minority unvaccinated population without being massive hypocrites and we never seen libtards do that before.

I can't wait for 2 months from now when we're at the same place Israel is and the vaccine is not only proven to be completely ineffective, but actually harmful.

I don't think it'll stop anything, but at least a few people will realize how stupid they sound.

they'll double down. Everything these policy makers and officials do is just to cover up each mistake they make. Everything is a Band-Aid in politics.

brb we released a chit experimental vaccine, doesn't work. Okay, everyone just take another one. and another one...

Possible.

Also possible.

OP I don't think that health insurers will be able to do this without the support of the federal government.

I think it would directly relate to the part of the Affordable Care Act that removed insurers ability to deny based on pre-existing conditions.

Being vaccinated or not vaccinated is a pre-existing condition of coverage. Right now it looks like being unvaccinated could lead to higher individual medical expenses, however it is far from a settled issue.

There are multiple vaccines and the long term effectiveness and safety is still unknown. We can't be 100% sure yet that none of these vaccines will cause ADE and make vaccinated people subject to more severe illness in the future. It may be that some vaccines are more/less effective and some vaccines are more/less safe.

If health insurers can deny/drop people over this single treatment then it seems to follow that they could claim precedence for denying/dropping coverage for other treatments too.

So if you doctor prescribes you a statin medication and you choose not to take it because of the potential negative effects then your insurer might be able to deny/drop your overall coverage, or even coverage for a specific event like a heart attack.
No, sorry sir, your ER visit and bypass surgery for your heart attack are considered a non-covered event.

Why? Well we see in your medical record that you were prescribed a statin medication? Yes, that. Well per our records from your pharmacy benefit on at least three occasions you were late picking up your refill.

Yes, I understand that sometimes we forget to take a pill, or things come up and it is hard to get to the pharmacy.

Sorry, my hands are tied. There is nothing I can do.

Maybe you could post a GoFundMe?

Under the current insurance structure, I don't think that will happen.

Just imagine if we were a "single payer" govt run system. Under that scenario, I'm sure it would be get vaxxed, or else.

All the more reason to keep govt out of health care as much as possible.

why dont they deny smokers and obese?

Hospitals admissions would literally be cut by 75% without those people.
