Eisenhower saw FA combat, took FA personal risk, and knew FA about military strategy. I mire his midwestern humility, but he had quite a bit to be humble about. He was a chairman rather than a soldier.

IIRC Ike only wore the medals he felt he had earned in battle, which was like 1 day in WW1. It's the right attitude to take IMO.

That's not Mattis (though there was quite a bit to suggest he turned into a real cuck also), but yeah...some people don't get caught up in all those ribbons and pins (and there I imagine there were FAR less available back in the WW2 era, than there are now) and there is the option to just to wear your top 3.

Most of these guys are just military politicians. Eisenhower was a grunt at heart that was all about winning a war. I thought mattis was one of those grunt generals too but turned out he was more or less a backer of the military industrial complex trying to keep us in wars and get us in more.
