Bad 1st degree steam burn to the face (Day 3)

Day three of receiving a spurt of steam from a boiler to the face. Peeling has started in most places. Next two days are going to be even uglier. Face is tighter than a prime LTC glower.



Anyone been down this road before?

Yeah I got some anti scarring cream that I'll start once the peeling is done and fresh skin is exposed. Kinda trippy watching an organ regenerate externally.

Fuk bro.

Used to work with some ******* who would open the steamer every time I reached for the fried parsley that we kept on top of it. Fukking steam burns to the arm all day. Can’t imagine it to the face like that, always looked away when opening it. Sorry boyo, on a plus note that shouldn’t scar at all esp if you make heavy use of that cream.

My dumb ass ex-wife made something in the crock-pot when my son was a toddler. We had our kitchen remodeled and put in an island. The island had a power outlet because it's code in the town we lived in, but we discussed that she should not plug appliances into that outlet until the kids were old enough to know to understand electrical outlets.

Anyway, she plugged the fuking crock pot into the only outlet she shouldn't have. My son who was maybe 9-15 month old crawwled over, and grabbed the cord to pull himself up to standing. The crockpot fell on his head, and he had burning chili all over his face. We rinsed it off quickly and brought him to the hospital, but his whole face ended up peeling. Fortunately he only has a small scar on his neck as a reminder, and he doesn't remember how he got it. But god damn I hate that stupid bitch. She never accepted responsibility for her stupidity.

Doctor said shouldn't be any scarring. Cant find any good time lapse healing stuff online that isn't mild/medium steam burns. Its all sever 3rd degree stuff, which is a whole other game.

We shall see. Maybe I'll be a monster forever and scare people in bad lighting lol.

Did the face have blisters? Can you remember the day by day changes? As in, when did the peeling start, what color did it change, how many days/weeks until normal skin? Please reply, asking for a friend.

Have you considered using plain petroleum jelly or triple antibiotic ointment to reduce scarring?

It works to reduce scarring from major to next to nothing. The only problem with that much area would be sleeping unless you stayed on your back, and also any sweating would make a mess. If you could stay home for a week or so that'd be great too. Stay out of the sun also if you can as much as you can for the next few weeks and wear sunscreen when you do have to go in sun - sun during the healing process makes scarring worse

For small areas to reduce scarring it's recommended to use the ointment + bandages mostly just to keep the ointment in place. but it works the same without the bandages as long as you can keep the ointment on it

Burned my hand pretty good twice OP. Once it caught fire after like the 3rd flaming dr pepper of the night. Hand was on blue fire for maybe 5 to 10 seconds before I found the sink..

Second time was me drunk and lazy putting out a camp fire. Steamed the phuvk out of that same dammed hand lol.

Both times it bubbled up, stung like hell and was raw as chit. I don't know how different a face is, because I was usually using gauze and ointment. But hopefully looking at your pics there will be no scaring. My chit bubbled up like bologna in a microwave, but no scaring, no damage. Took around a month to be good. Two months before I wasn't babying the hand lifting anymore.

Holy phuck that would infuriate me. I don't know how I would be able to react to someone after that. Especially when they can't admit it. Even though you both know it's her fault, but for some reason her denying out loud helps her to feel less guilty. Phuckin women.

I can almost imagine my girl denying some chit like that after she accidentally hurt our kid. Honestly this post got me heated so I'm gonna be an ******* to her today just in case she phucks up in the future. Dumb bish.

Damn brah, steam burns are a biatch, I've never had them near that bad though, or on my face. How did this happen exactly? I work on steam boilers from time to time but we always shut the systems down first.

Paper work from ER says 2nd degree, but all online research says its 1st degree. My forearm had it slightly worst, 2nd degree, plus the minor facial blistering, so technically its categorized as 2nd on paper, but 90% of it is 1st degree.

So the boiler heats the water as it runs through an enclosed system throughout the facility. I have a threaded cap cylinder (filter feeder) that allows access to the system. Valve off the input and output to the feeder. Open the drain valve to relieve pressure, than channel lock the lid open with a little blunt force. As I opened the drain valve on the floor to relieve pressure I opened the threaded top within the same standing up motion. That half a second wasn't enough time for the pressure to be relieved and when i hit the cap it flew off and steam/water erupted for a second. PSI throughout system is 50-75 ish.

I poured some petrol onto a bomb fire last year in an attempt to get it burning stronger. Surprisingly it worked better than expected, and I had to jump back splashing fuel over my forearm which also caught light. Burned the top layer of skin right off in some places and blistered etc else where.

A year later the skin has completely healed, no texture difference or raised scars whatsoever. Just the slightest discoloration which I think may be down to me not protecting the wound from UV early on. Hopefully this also goes away with time, but it's been about 14 months...

I doubt your burn will scar you long term OP, but will probs take a while to fully heal

The boiler was used with a hot closed loop. I do water treatment, so I was going to open the filter feeder (blue cylinder that allows in operation access to system) and did not wait long enough for the pressure to vent. Half a second would've made the difference. Water was 190+, so full on steam cloud and water droplets upon depressurizing. The objective was to open it, pour half a gallon of corrosion inhibitor in there, then seal it up and check for leaks. Got 1/3 of the way through lol.

I got a 2nd degree steam burn on my arm like 8 years ago. Felt like a really bad sun burn first day, felt fine after. Healing process took like 2 or 3 weeks from what I remember. Gets uglier as you go along; begin to peal dark brown skin, revealing pink skin beneath. My arm healed fine, basically zero scarring. Good luck brah, im sure you'll be fine.

I burned my arm second degree when I crashed a dirt bike and it fell on me and I got trapped against the exhaust
It got pretty bad looking. Your face is probably going to get worse but now I have almost zero evidence of the burn

Steam/superheated water is nothing to play with brah. Take the few seconds to stay safe. As you found out, it's worth it, since it only takes a split second to go wrong if you don't.

Brutal.

I got a burn on my arm from a medium pressure steam boiler @ 30psi, one of the most painful experiences I’ve had.

You a steam fitter or chemical tech?
