True Detective: How is S1 so good and S2 SO BAD (Spoilers)

Obviously there will be spoilers ITT.

Just finished Season 2 and it was just awful. The plot was terrible, the characters were terrible, the acting was terrible.

FFS we get Rachel McAdams drugged in a high class sex party and she barely gets into any kind of difficult situation.

So many opportunities for good sex scenes like in Season 1 and they were badly filmed and not enjoyable.

I can't even tell you what the exact case was they were trying to solve, just overall corruption.

Vince Vaughn was so out of his element and the ginger playing his wife seemed like she was high 24/7 or possibly a robot.

There was basically one good scene in the entire season.

Just started S3, hoping it will be better. I already like it more than 2.

Season 1 was fukking incredible. Season 2 was utterly forgettable.

Writer had years to think about and write Season 1. Season 1 is huge success and then HBO is like "crank out Season 2 ASAP, here's millions of dollars."

It’s better than season 2, but the ending was pretty dumb. Like… that’s what happened?

Season 1 was peak story telling. I don’t think I’ll ever see anything better than that. Game of thrones season 1-3 is up there. Band of Brothers. Peaky blinders. Boardwalk empire. But nothing tops TD season 1

Season 3 was really good. Acting was top notch.

Not as good as season 1. But nothing ever will be. That was goat television.

The trap house shootout scene in season 1 was fukking epic. The writer/director nailed biker gangs too, and it was just a side plot, but he got it better than all the seasons of SOA lol

Season 2 wasn't as good as season 1 but it was still a good show. Vince Vaughn had some pretty strange dialogue to work with. Season 3 was almost as good as season 1

season 2 was decent if you look at it on it's own. But when compared to season 1 it's an absolute let down. Actually I started season 3 but forgot about it and never finished it.

Season 1 was better. Lightning in a bottle.

Season 2 was actually a worthy followup, but I feel like it started somewhat weak and got way stronger as the season went along, but by that point most people were already too pissed to enjoy it or had stopped watching. They expected S1 remade, apparently.
The way it ramps up into them all essentially being hunted by corrupt law enforcement and agents was intense. Way more intense ending for pretty much all the characters.

Fargo is overall a better series, IMO.
