Start prepping boys!
Anyone aware of “peak oil” theory?
Tldr: oil production inevitably slows down/plummets and billions of people starve to death/riot

- A geophysicist (hubbert) theorized oil production is represented by a bell curve
- the worlds population exploded during the industrial revolution and largely due to the applications of oil
- oil is used in many ways for mass crop production which has aided the worlds population growth
- eventually the world will reach a peak oil production rate which will inevitably plateau and fall. The question here is when.
- the worlds population will surpass the supply of oil.
- if our primary energy source (oil) decreases we will not be able to maintain the current population. (Famine/riots)
- at the end he suggests that covid is the cover up/response. That’s up for debate but the peak oil part was interesting.

I think we have advanced enough with nuclear solar and wind energy that we wont need to use oil in the future. If countries stop being scared of nuclear power we will be good...plus we got electric cars and planes in the works so oil is not going to be that big of a deal

The issue is population. By the time we realize we don’t have the energy to support and feed the current population the population would have overshot the supply and that’s when the chaos breaks out.
No telling when this happens hopefully long after I’m dead but someone’s going to be left holding the bag.

Oil and gas don't just power transportation and generate electricity. Petroleum products are a massive input in modern industrialized agriculture and the various plastics, man-made fabrics, coatings, etc. affect pedestrian products, but are also major components in vehicles, computing devices, and medical devices.
Imagine if we had to revert to using glass syringes that must be sterilized and re-used.
It is hard for me to imagine daily life looking much the same without a large reduction in usage via conservation [better building design, less individual motorized transit, etc.]. And it isn't like this wasn't known to be an issue [finite planetary resources] decades ago. Better planning/zoning and higher standards for building insulation applied over the last 50 years could have made a difference.

We are living in a different era now, technology has found alternatives to oil, so we will be safe (although some countries' GDP will take a hit), but that's ok.

TLDR: The world has a carrying capacity.
Big fooking surprise.
Whether it's oil or food or any other resources that ultimately causes us to reach that capacity is anyone's guess.
Th carrying capacity is about 10 billion though and we should reach that by about 2050.

Here’s a relatable study.
https://www.geo.arizona.edu/Antevs/n...1reindeer.html
Cliffs:
- 1944: 29 deer brought to food rich island
- 1957: average deer weighs more than domestically raised deer
- 1963: 6000 deer
- 1963: mass deaths
- 1966: 42 deer
Hopefully we’re smarter than deer. The main difference between humans and deer is that we aren’t gonna just ldar, we’ll go down fighting and maybe even nuking.
Maybe ole Billy Gates is on to something about population control
