I feel like this is a song written about a stripper.

My father was a bit of a tyrant. He cheated on my mother and had a nasty temper. He even tossed a punch or two at me as a teenager for stupid chit. She left him and remarried. My step father was the epitome of virility. He was faithful, honest, a man of God, and a bad mother trucker (I personally got to see him protecting us, and he did it with such ferocity that it was both scary and positively impactful) It was my first experience of a real father, honestly. It was tough though, because a father who cares can be tough on his kids. He keeps order in the house and punishes when necessary. That chit was new to me. I thought he was an ******* for many years, but as a grown man and father now, I realize he helped harden me in to a man capable of taking on great responsibility. He never had to punch me to send that message though. Although, we did get a couple spankings, That’s not quite the same as a grown ass man throw a punch at you at 10 years old.

Luckily my real father found a woman deeply devoted to Christ. I think he realized he was given a second chance, and he let her Christlike identity mold him into the man that he is today. He’s a good man now, but he certainly was not when I was younger.

The song is a little cheesy, sure, but the lyrics do mean something to some of us. In my opinion, country tends to hit real life more than other genres, and I believe that its generally fully of good values. For many many years, I listen to rap, R&B, metal etc. as a middle-aged man, father of two girls, and a husband, I relate to country much more these days than any of those other genres.

I know this might not of been a serious thread, but I had a good talk with my stepfather today and, although I’m not a huge fan of the song, it does have a good message and it hits home

Maybe it’s pandering, but generally speaking, each genre of music is part of a specific culture. Because of this, each has its own values based loosely on the culture. For instance, how many rap songs talk about hos, ****in, drugs etc.? It’s pretty low standards and crappy values, which goes along with the culture that makes it; teenage pregnancy, prison…is it better if both are divorced with their own children and looking to remarry?

I was in a situation where I could’ve married a woman and adopted her children, but I couldn’t do it. I was young, she was a bit older, and I would’ve had to make a choice of not having children of my own. To this day she never remarried. I think I was the last man to date her that she would’ve married. Sucks for her, because she was a cool chick and a good mother, she just did some stupid chit when she was young and fuarked her life up forever.
