Sleep apnea. Anyone here?

Anybody here have sleep apnea?

Just wondering.

Do you adjust the settings yourself or just leave it to the doc?

Definitely make the adjustments on your own. It’s absurd to make an appointment and pay a copay just so a tech can press a few buttons on your machine.

Once you see how easy it is to do on your own, you’ll see what I mean. It takes 30 seconds.

And your machine might have the ability to be switched from CPAP to APAP. My doctor never even mentioned that to me, but I figured it out once I started looking at the “advanced” settings.

Changed it to APAP, tinkered with the pressure range for a few nights until I figured out what worked best, and never looked back. There’s nothing your doctor can do with that machine that you can’t do in the comfort of your home.

My wife says I show signs of obvious sleep apnea, I really need to get checked out before it's too late. I don't know much about it. Anyone who feels like sharing input, please do.

Yes.

I never use the heat or humidifier on my machine in five years.

I turned off the automatic pressure option and put it fixed at my prescribed pressure and found it sooooo much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep when it is at a constant setting than having it adjust on it's own.

Over the years I started turning the pressure up as well, I like it higher than what I was prescribed though my next increase will max out the machine.

Yeah man, you can adjust it easily. Do a search on your machine and the controls and you'll be able to do it.

There is also a program that you can download to view the data on the ad card in your machine.

Unless you're a fat piece of chit you shouldn't have sleep apnea unless you got piss poor genetics in that region of the mouth.

Yeah, I have one. My pressure was set by my doc at 8 like 15 years ago.

I've been through a few units at this point, and I set the pressure myself, but always to 8, I'm not sure why you would want to change it.

Humidity depending on the time of the year, but when my house is dry in the winter I need the humidifier.

Never checked out the data, but I sleep like **** if I don't use it.

I have central sleep apnea, you are talking about obstructive sleep apnea. I used to work at a company that did respiratory therapy. Mainly fatties get the obstructive sleep apnea, but thick necked bodybuilders do too. Central is when your brain pauses on the signals to breathe while you sleep, fit healthy people as well as fatties and everything in between can have that.

Download the app SnoreLab and monitor it yourself. It's a great app that records you intermittently and you can input variables such as if you worked out, ate late, slept with more pillows, etc. Snoring can be self treated in many instances.

Sometimes it can just be the sleeping on the wrong pillow.

Anyone who has sleep apnea without a cpap machine; look into something called "Wellue 02 ring", it's an oxygen monitor that vibrates and wakes you up if your oxygen drops below a certain percentage that you set. It's very small and worn on the thumb or index finger.

Do you use a CPAP machine or a bipap or any other kind of central apnea?

Do you all find it easy to sleep with the mask on?

I find it so hard to sleep with it on. And if i do get to sleep I usually wake up and pull it off during the night.

Anybody else have this problem and how did you overcome it?

What type of mask are you using?

Age 31.

I started having it at 35 when I was at my leanest. Good luck.

My ex bro in law was a competitivr BBer and developed it in middle age also.

That being said yes obesity is the biggest cause.

I got a full face mask because my mouth opens sometimes when I sleep, and then the air just blows through your nose and out your mouth and drys your sinuses out real fukign fast. I don't know the model, I've used a couple different ones - it will depend on the shape of your face some put a line on the bridge of my nose, some left a mark on my forehead, but I have found at least 2 models that work for my face shape.
