I wonder if closing the Gym was a really bad idea in hindsight...

Obesity Worsens Outcomes from COVID-19

Adults with excess weight are at even greater risk during the COVID-19 pandemic:

Having obesity increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19. People who are overweight may also be at increased risk.
Having obesity may triple the risk of hospitalization due to a COVID-19 infection.
Obesity is linked to impaired immune function.2,3
Obesity decreases lung capacity and reserve and can make ventilation more difficult.4
A study of COVID-19 cases suggests that risks of hospitalization, intensive care unit admission, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death are higher with increasing BMI.5
The increased risk for hospitalization or death was particularly pronounced in those under age 65. 5
More than 900,000 adult COVID-19 hospitalizations occurred in the United States between the beginning of the pandemic and November 18, 2020. Models estimate that 271,800 (30.2%) of these hospitalizations were attributed to obesity.6

Children diagnosed with obesity may suffer worse outcomes from COVID-19. In a study of COVID-19 cases in patients aged 18 years and younger, having obesity was associated with a 3.07 times higher risk of hospitalization and a 1.42 times higher risk of severe illness (intensive care unit admission, invasive mechanical ventilation, or death) when hospitalized.7

Lockdowns obviously made everything far worse, all public health outcomes suffered as a result

Only the clinically retarded still think they are a good idea

I think this is true - you're better off spreading a disease like this in all honesty.

More people are dying of heart/fat related illnesses by staying at home all the time.

https://www.heart.org/en/news/2020/0...-from-covid-19
Moreover, the JAMA study found huge increases in excess deaths from underlying causes such as diabetes, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease in Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania – the five states with the most COVID-19 deaths in March and April. New York City experienced the biggest jumps, including a 398% rise in heart disease deaths and a 356% increase in diabetes deaths.

Other research underscores the findings. A new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine analyzed data from March through May and calculated that 22% of excess deaths were not attributed to COVID-19. Although data is still being gathered, "Upward trends in other causes of death (e.g., suicide, drug overdose, heart disease) may contribute to excess deaths in some jurisdictions," the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

edit: Not saying closing gyms was correct, but if there's anything that fat people love, its an excuse.

Gym closure hopefully caused gym-goers to do more calisthenics, order some equipment for home, do cardio outside assuming you were allowed to, eat less to compensate, etc.

I think gym closure only negatively impacted gym goers looking for an excuse to stop or take a break.

Yup. Covid was nothing. It was the people 'in charge' who turned this into a catastrophe.

Fatties also spread covid at a higher rate. Because of having a greater overall cell ratio they essentially become factories for the virus

Had these 30% not been obese - they most likely wouldn't have been hospitalized.
