Possibly about to walk out of my job by lunch....

Cliffs..

Op was debating on working closer to home..
current job is 1 hour one way.
make 75k...potential to make 120k-130k within two years.
Very stable


op was offered a job 5 min from home...
I declined because it's a new business and a lot of risk.
OP was offered 100k to take the job 5 min from home and start today.

Current job has until lunch to match offer or make it better now or I walk.

We have already been discussing this with current employer for over two weeks...feel like I'm getting the run around.

Current job might match ur offer then start recruiting behind ur back.

So you will get the higher salary for 2-3 months before u get terminated.


They already know u ain’t stable and a headache.

If I had a 1 hour commute (2 hours both ways) I'd take a pay cut to keep more time to myself. You figure you work 40 hours a week, but really it's 50 because of the commute. Technically up to a 20% pay cut is understandable for nearly zero commute, when you consider the time you're saving.

Making MORE at the new job, on top of a nearly instant commute, is a no brainer.

Only things I'd consider:

1) Is your 401(k)/retirement vested at current company? If not, how much longer to go?

2) Does the new job have similar or better benefits, on top of giving you a slightly higher salary?

3) Are you single? Any kids?

Depending on the answers to those things I'd say you'd be regretful if you didn't take this job.

100% serious advice man, never take a counter offer. If you look at the statistics, something like 90% of people who accept a counter offer leave anyways within a year.

I would take the new job.
