Why do low reps build strength?
It’s commonly known that using heavy weight (low reps) builds more strength than using light weight (high reps), but why?
Say for example, you perform pushups with a 50kg backpack for a maximum of 5 reps.
Your brain sends a signal to your muscles to fight the resistance by giving you neurological advantages such as increasing the amount of muscle fibres being recruited. This results in strength gains.
But if you do the same exercise, but without a backpack (just body weight), then say by the time you reach 60 reps, your fatigue and have to fight the resistance to do your last rep.
Isn’t the resistance essentially the same for the last rep? Wouldn’t your brain just send the same signal to your muscles as it did in the first example?
Does muscular fatigue have anything to do with it?

People give you less leeway and are quicker to argue with you etc and that builds character.
With high reps, people want you to rep them and don’t want to be negged by you, so you get preferential treatment in that way

high reps is what builds insane fizeeks, as long as you're using the right weight and intesnty. Lol if any of your sets are under 15 reps. There is a reason you see no one with a muscular body with 5x5

not many people in the gym are training with explosive strength, they are just going through the repetitions of movement

If you took the same guy and trained in high rep vs low rep, assuming he had the same muscle in both situations, maybe he's say maxing out for deadlift at 405 for high rep and 455 for low rep. The thing is though if that guy in the high rep situation went on a 2 month strength training cycle, he'd be at 455 with no problem. That little bit of extra strength is just skill/CNS adaption which can be quickly developed.
If there are any dramatic visual differences, I think that's purely from bodybuilding oriented lifters focusing more on upper body, not from high rep vs low rep.
