Why This Scene In ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ Could Be Racist

Just getting you guys ready for clown world a little early this year!
Created by Charles Schulz, the conflicting scene shows the only Black character, Franklin, is sitting by himself on one side of the Thanksgiving table. While Charlie Brown, Sally, Peppermint Patty, and Snoopy, all sit together on the opposite side of the table. Some have critiqued this scene, considering it problematic, even arguing that it could be racist since Franklin is separated from the rest of the characters, who are white.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't...if he was in the middle on the other side the claim would be that it was racist because he was being shown surrounded by white kids or something idiotic like that.

HOWEVER Charles Schulz did apparently break some walls in regards to adding a black character to his comic strip because of a correspondence with Harriet Glickman after MLK assassination.

I agree, segregation is racist. Except on college campuses with black only dormitories. then its progressive. but all other instances its racist. well except POC designated spaces in student centers. But really all the other times than those.

It’s a weird table setup. I think the bigger point is that a black character was included, which was progressive at the time. The context of the cartoon is important, but people these days tend to view things from a 2021 perspective alone.

It’s intellectually lazy to retrospectively claim racism in situations like this.
