anyone notice how malls/department stores are a ghost town these days [sad]

went to a local mall like at 7 Saturday night and there were hardly any people there, same with target, walmart, and other shopping centers etc. Parking lots hardly occupied . This is christmas/holiday shopping season and in the past places would be packed and it would be hard to even find parking. It was weird, felt so ****ing eerie like something out of a sci fi movie.

Amazon prime has free shipping and they are generally cheaper. Have you seen the price of gas,, why would I waste $gas and drive to the mall

I totally get it. That's what I do myself, haven't shopped in a store or mall other than small necessities. My point is that it's kind of sad to see the old way of doing things kinda phasing out right in front of our eyes.

I went to a mall that used to be crazy crowded on esp on fri and sat night, went a few weeks ago there were literally 5 other people in there felt abandoned and weird

I can see shopping online for some things but when it comes to clothes I need to try them on for fit before I buy. Same with groceries. No way I'm trusting some snot nosed teenager to pick out my meat and produce. But I guess a lot of people are ok with it. Yeah kinda sad to see malls dying a slow death.

For me it is the mark ups. If footlocker, Macy's, JC Penny's etc had more competitive prices compared to online I would go.

It's like the grocery store. I rarely to no longer buy meat or vegetables at the grocery store. Because their prices aren't competitive with local butchers and farmers market. The o ly thing the grocery store has going for it convenience with everything in one spot

so you're saying when you can get everything at a mall delivered to your door same or next day for half the price and not having to drive/walk around the mall, hurts the amount of business at malls?
