What Do You Consider a "Good" Mile Time If You're Not a Runcel?

Pretty much title. For dudes who actually lift and aren't solely focused on cardio like runcels, what do you think is a respectable mile time that any lifter should achieve?

Sub 7, the fastest kids on my HS basketball team could run under 6. Over 7 doesn't make the team.

My nephew set his grade school record in 5th or 6th grade with a sub 6 mile. Kids kind of an athletic freak though.

8 mins if not runner, but in shape is good and id consider you healthy cardio wise

under 6 if elite highschool athlete or active adult playing ball 3x a week (think 5:55 mile time)
under 5 if you wanted to make varsity on my H.S. track team (think 4:50 mile time)
Low 4 min in college (think 4:30 and under - this is really competetive but theres a huge pool of runners who can do it still)
I dont give a f*ck about a b*tch on the internet

Lol @ this poll.

For someone who doesn't run, <10 minutes

Go ahead and grab some random and see how long it takes them to get a mile in.

Lol bruh, 10 mins/mile is the pace for the Couch to 5K program, which is designed for couch potatoes who don't do any sort of exercise regularly to get into running a 5K (aka it's the training pace for fat people to run 3.1 miles, not people who exercise regularly and are asked to run 1 mile once in a while). 10 min/mile seems pathetically slow to me if someone is at least a recreational lifter. Yeah, maybe it's a good time for the "average" American, but not for someone who exercises regularly, which was what I was talking about in my poll.

Who knows, maybe I underestimate myself and it's not as bad I think it is (hence why I asked in the first place)

*Never ran in your life - I'd say shoot for a goal of no more than 12 min. Couch to 5k is the way to go if you're at this stage

*History of athletics, out of shape but not a fat blob - I'd say 10min should be the maximum

*Currently in shape/good condition. 8min or less.

Again, these are my personal metrics I would like to see if we're being realistic. Obviously people with track/field or military history are going to have much better 1mile times on average, assuming no injuries or any health/physiological issues
I have found my gains again. Thanks Sam Adams

Sub 6 min

Standards shouldn't be lowered because you decide you like McDonald's. If you're a runner then sub 5 min.

If you can't do either then it's time to visit your local rope shop

If you're under 40 with decent knees and in good shape, you should be able to run 1 mile in 8-9 mins with little or no training and get it under 8 with just a little effort. I'm 50 and run 3 miles a couple times a week, but I have terrible arthritis in my knees, so my pace is closer to 9-10 over the 3 miles.

-run slow (slower than you think) and slowly add mileage every week. One of these runs should be a long run.
-after a few weeks add in a day of strides after one of your runs.

-after a few months of building slow easy mileage do a structured training plan that includes 2ish days of harder workouts (like intervals and Tempo Runs)

That doesn't make sense either. It's not as simple as you're a skinny jogger or you "look like McDonald's". A lot of my friends and I who are recreational lifters certainly don't look like McDonalds but would probably require quite a bit of training to get down to a sub-6 minute mile. If you weigh more and don't focus on running so much because you're more of a strength athlete, it's understandable you won't run as fast as someone who is lighter and is exclusively focused on their cardio conditioning. Hell, lots of dudes I know that are active and play a cardio intensive sport (i.e. tennis/basketball) but just not cardiocels can't break 6 minutes for a mile, but can probably run a 7-7.5 min/mile, which is around my bar for "good". The poll seems to agree with that so far.

8 if you don't run often, maybe few times a month.

7 is respectable if you run a 1-2 times a week.

6 is really good IMO.

Any adult in shape, not a fat slob, who DOES NOT run regularly should be able to hit 9-10 minute mile.

8 minute mile is where you start to get people who run somewhat regularly (at my age a 9min mile is the MINIMUM acceptable for fitness)

6-7 minute mile is where you do it several times per week.

Sub 6 is training to run distance regularly.

Sub 5 is elite level.

All branches of the military require ~6 min miles for perfect fitness scores.

For a nonruncel sub 8 is solid, sub 7 "good". I ran a sub 5 ONCE years ago and that's absolutely hauling balls.

Meanwhile elite marathoners keep that pace the entire time, absolutely crazy. My non-Kenyan genetics of piss.

What's the point of running once you're an adult? Sure, if you play sports into adulthood like recreational soccer, running may still be important, but until the running/jogging fad of the late 60's/70's, adults didn't run as exercise. You were a runcel weirdo like Forrest Gump if you did.

Moreover, bragging about mile times for recreational running is retarded. Nobody cares how slow or fast you can run around your neighborhood except you.

For someone who doesn't run regularly (<1× per week) anything in the 7-8 minute range is pretty decent. I would add that if you are 200+ then anything under 8:30 puts you in "good enough" shape.

If you run at least 1× per week and have done so consistently for longer than a couple of months. You should be somewhere in the 6-7 minute range, again, with 200+ bw being a tad higher.

I usually get the wild hair to run a mile every few months or so.

Last time I did about 2 months ago.......1st time out did it in 10:22...felt horrible, was hungover, needed to clear the system out.
2 days later ran it again 9:37
3 days later ran it again 8:28
2 days later....7:44
3 days later....7:28

So in less than 2 weeks I knocked 3 minutes off. Haven't run since then, kind of just do it to make sure I still can. I know that if I consistently ran 2-3x week I'd be in the mid 6's.....I just like the way my knees feel so I don't want to fuk that up. In college I was consistently doing low 6's and feeling great after.....but I also played sports and was 20lbs lighter.

Cardiovascular fitness makes a huge difference as you get older. 47 checking in, blew out my knee this summer, felt like crap within 2 motnhs of sitting around and no cardio.

You can get cardiovascular fitness just by walking a few miles a couple of times a week. There is no reason to run as an adult. There is no reason to put those stresses on your feet/ankles/knees as they age. The human body was designed to walk long distances comfortably.

That's about an 8 minute mile on average. And that's a decent time for a casual runner. That's why I say anything under 10 minute mile is good for people that don't run regularly.

What a lot of you are missing is what percentage of mhr are you able to do your mile time in?

I’d argue that the guy at an 8:30 - 9 minute pace at 70 - 80% mhr is better than the guy doing a 7:30 pace 85-90% of mhr. The 8:30 guy is more cardiovascularly fit.
