New projector or TV?

Not sure whether to go for a new projector or TV. Any input?



Projectors seem cool as fuk. Especially the newer ones (short throw lasers). But the people I knew with projectors ended up going back to TVs after some time

Projector is GOAT if you can make a dedicated theater room with complete Surround sound, seating, no ******t light, etc. if you can’t go all out, just go with the tv.

I have a projector.
Issue is the bulb has a lifespan
Say 1000 hours (manufactures quote ideal)
500 movies
**Black out tape over all laptop/cell phone cameras so gov cant spy on me fapping crew**

tv no question

i legit built 2 projector screen (like 100 & 120 inch) but would have had to drop another $900 on a half-azzed projected that was still half the resolution of a big screen

so i went to walmart, got a 65 inch Hisense. havent looked back.

I see. Idea was to have an ******t light rejecting screen with a compatible projector, which could make it great even if the light wasn't otherwise controlled

Indeed. New laser ones have 20k hours, which manufacturer say will last for almost two decades if you watch a few hours daily. I never had any product that stayed relevant for that long

4ft away gets me about 70 to 75 inches.. colors are better irl

i hate the oversaturated over sharpened look of tv's now. I like the movie theater grain and colors more

Go tv, 70inch at a minimum. As big as you can fit in the space of course. Prices of tvs are so good that you can go huge and be less that a projector

definitely go 4k ultra short throw. Xiaomi make a good one. It's about $2k usd but you should also buy a special screen for it. I think it's reflector crystal but forgot the acronym for it. Probably another 500+ usd for that.

Looks amazing. Like straight from the cinema seat. Got a really really nice feel to it

Yeah, 75" seems to be the mark before it gets exponentially more expensive, which is why its either that or perhaps a projector

Absolutely Love my projector. Got an optima projector off amazon in 2015 and it’s 1080p. Blew one bulb and it was like $150 to replace and if you can change memory on a computer you can change our bulb easily.

The problem with a projector is you have to get a real screen, at least a 5.1 receiver and speaker setup, and wiring.

I am in the midst of redoing my room and spent $3k on speakers alone. I am sorting out sound absorption panels now, to give you an idea of how easily this can become a hobby.

Projector is absolutely balls and people are super impressed when they see a good setup - if you care about that - but once you go down this road it’s hard to not get sucked in.

Then again you can put together a decent setup for $1200 to $1500.
Great to hear. Bulbs aren't as scary to replace as it often might seem. Its true, every time I deep dive into some chit I end up raising the standards and expentations to the point where I shell out way more on it

Xiaomi was the first one I saw in that category. Lots of great new ones around 2k mark. ALR screen might be the acronym (******t light rejecting)

BIL gave us a cheap projector as a house warming gift at our last spot.
It was alright/10.
This house we put the 50 in the bedroom and picked up a fairly cheap (~500) TCL 65 for the living room. Legit couldn’t be happier

The only reason to get a TV is because you're too poor to afford the projector.

Fukin lmao @ poorcels ITT. I have 16 projectors for my guest rooms. I didn't want to put them in outdoor areas and I'm having a better quality built for the rest of my 36 rooms

have a 720p LED projector.
i use it out side in the summer and enjoy it that way.
but i'll stick with a tv inside.

if I had a dedicated theater room i'd go with a projector due to i can have a much larger screen for less.
