I dont rate Parasite at all (mild spoiler)

Finally watched last night, it passed the time but dont understand the hype at all. Certainly wouldnt watch again. Very contrived and didnt know what it wanted to be as a film. Supposed to hit you in the feels at the end Im sure, but didnt work for me, probably because they had no compunction about throwing other people out of jobs for their own ends..

its not a film anyone will be talking about in a few years, wont be a modern classic..

I agree. Was meh. Probably a lot of people's first foreign film watch, so they virtue signalled about how good it was.

Yeah think it was because it was a subtitled film that at least made sense if you didn’t think too hard

Lol at giving us a hot take on a movie that’s like 3 years old and saying no one will be talking about it in a few years.

It was ok imo but yeah the hype (a cpl years ago) wasn’t really warranted.

certainly you can't appreciate it to its full potential since there are so many hidden meanings that only Koreans or people familiar with the Korean culture would understand. Nonetheless, it won Cannes in 2019. Pretty solid movie in my opinion.

This. Very good movie that also said something about life in modern South Korea.

The metaphors aren't exactly hidden either. See the same thing with Train to Busan or Squid Game. All three are quality.

What I loved about that movie is the ensuing triggering of butthurt patriot-cels who complained about a non-murican movie winning best film or whatever.

there was no need to be upset.

Main issue is it’s illogical, they were too easily caught, and the ending is too long and unsatisfying.

That movie was boring as hell. It's movies like that (and the hype behind them) that make me not trust movies with hype. I still haven't seen Squid Games because it just feels... similar. Asian movie with tons of hype. I agree with one of the comments above, there's nothing high IQ about the movie at all, lol. It's more low IQ to me than most movies, maybe something that tricked low IQ people into thinking it's some intelligent movie.

A few review on movies since we're at it.

I thought Dune was way better than I expected, not like 10/10 but happy, and I'm actually wanting to watch it again. It needs to be watched on a 4k screen, with a solid home theater.

Wind River is great. Sicario 1 and 2. Zero Zero Zero on Netflix is good (some brutal scenes).

I just finished watching the series Vikings. I have no idea why I never took it seriously, I figured it was some low budget show, but holy **** it was actually really good, like a must-watch high budget show, it surprised me.

Narcos Mexico, or whatever this new season is called on Netflix is turning out to be very well done. Serious, realistic acting and casting, good writing, I'm like 3-4 episodes in so far.

Oh, a hugely underrated show is on Showtime it's called Homeland. Epic spy show, just amazing high budget stuff.

I don’t agree with you on much but absolutely agree on this.
Everyone talked like it was the ultimate movie of the decade. I think it was more a joke to get everyone to watch a movie with subtitles lol.
It was alright and that’s being generous imo.

I think the low iq get carried away with the whole social allegory side of it, as if its got something profound to say about class structure.

Agreed. Additionally, I think it's low IQ to suggest that people with money are morally corrupt. This might be controversial, but I've almost experienced the opposite.

In real life, most people become rich/wealthy two ways. One, they got lucky starting their own business, all that shows me is competency in some manner and luck. The other most common way is by being competent professionally, and being highly compensated by a company. Generally, the people that are most compensated are a strong combination of friendly, trustworthy, reliable and intelligent. That's why you pay somebody more. You don't pay sleazy people, that's a bad investment. So I sometimes think it's low IQ to portray people with nice homes/things like that as morally corrupt, less helpful, etc.

Wtf are you babbling about? The movie had nothing to do with what you wrote. You are truly retarded.

The movie is about the despair of life. That for some people... majority of us..no matter how hard we try...no matter how lucky we get...we just aren't going to make it. And there's nothing we can do about it...

That's just one theme out of literally dozens...

If you don't get it. You're just low IQ. It's not your fault. Go watch wonder woman or sicario. It's more in your alley.

Movie was great. Kept me interested the entire time. Probably an 8 or 8.5/10

The problem you’re having is that they don’t make good movies any more.

There are probably less than 5 movies a year that would pass as a true 7/10 or higher. So when a movie comes around that’s a true 8 or 8.5/10, it’s as if it was a 10/10.

Long story short, the film industry is dead unless you’re a Marvel phhag or a reboot phhag.

LOL. This post is ironic.

First, I'm not surprised that all of this went over your head. Second, the movie (and many others) portray a sort of immoral behavior of rich people. My post (which confused you so much) talks about how I think this is a myth, how I don't think it's realistic.

I was pretty clearly stating that when Hollywood does this, I think it's pandering to a less intelligent crowd and I don't think it's realistic. You fell right for it, I'm still not sure that you'll understand the point I was making.

Second, I came from rags to riches, I was born into very unfortunate circumstances. People can make it out of them, I did, but yes some people are unlucky enough to have an even more slim chance of getting out.

Third, I've never watched Wonder Woman, not up my alley, but I think it's hilarious that you included Sicario with Wonder Woman. I'm not sure you know what Sicario is, do you? It's a very well written movie for the intelligent crowd, and realistic acting/scenarios.

it may have 'dozens'of themes but thats a lot of the problem, the message is a muddle. That really affects the climax, where I think we are supposed to burst into tears, but it left me completely cold.

Its perfectly possible to feel sympathy for unsympathetic charcters (the original Blade Runner, Mayor of Casterbridge, Unforgiven, even Darth Vader if you like) but it takes much tighter and more focused writing than this, not just throwing everything at the screen and seeing what sticks
