Tech brahs, I summon you…
How hard is it to career change into tech at 30 from a finance background?
I am so unbelievably done with finance and tech has always interested me much more than taxes/accounting bullchit.
Is it over for me with so much hot young talent already saturating the market straight out of college?

If you are good at it, you can easily break in srs. So many idiots who graduate with a CS degree and no portfolio who think they can just coast into a job. Those days are over.
If you consistently apply and are good, you will have no problem finding work. First job will be the hardest, after that you are on easy mode.
What you want to do in tech is another thing though. Its huge, so you must specialize

I've changed my career at 27. Went from making minimum wage to double, now sitting at quadruple after 5 years or so..would've been making 10x if I was in US or A..location matters for a good job and salary.
But yeah, hardest part was making the decision to not be miserable and take a gamble on a totally new field that was foreign to me. Your mind tries to play tricks on you about how young people will screw you, or you've got to work under someone 10 years your jr but these are just fantasies.

I’m going to take some kind of vocational tech program in school and really deep dive into this chit. Most finance jobs are on the verge of automation by fintech and I’m not gonna be on the receiving end when that time comes. Also, tech is just a really robust field all together for all types of specialized skills….really future proof for sure.

Honestly if you learn to code or something like that and say you used it during your years of finance I'm sure you'd have no problem becoming data scientist or data analyst if you wanted that.
As a developer you'd beed to be pretty good but lots of people are self taught

you make it sound like the whole tech industry is nothing but coders and engineers
every tech company needs people with different backgrounds in business, im sure theres a LOT of use for someone with years of experience in finance.
Theres countless programs needed for financial management and coders dont come up with how to make those programs all by themselves.

I went from 32k a year LEO at 28 wife and kid, quit and got a day job mowing lawns and went and got my IT associates. I now have a masters and make 6 figures+
Was it easy? No. I busted my ass, got good grades, networked with my teachers, got relevant certs etc. Got my first Helpdesk job making as much as my LEO salary and worked my way up from there.
